Will crawls carefully into the bed next to his sleeping lover. Nico stirs only to turn towards Will and snuggle into his chest. Will smiles at his content boyfriend. Nico would never snuggle up to Will so easily if he were awake, not unless Will was persistent enough. Will wraps his arms around the smaller boy and strokes his soft black hair. Will is almost asleep when Nico’s face scrunches up in fear and he grips Will’s shirt tight. Will knows the signs off a nightmare from past experience. He pulls Nico closer as he starts to push and struggle. Will hugs Nico close and whispers gently in his ear.
“Shhh, it’s okay. Nico, love breath. I’m here with you.” He repeats the words gently, but Nico is still lost in the nightmare. Will knows that this is a bad enough that no amount of sweet words will solve the problem. Gentle he shakes Nico, who now has tears brimming his closed eyelids. “Nico wake up. You’re having a nightmare. Come on, babe, wakey, wakey, eggs and bakey.” He whispers. Nico’s brows furrow more. Will shakes him a bit harder. “Nico! Ups-a-daisy!” Finally Nico’s dark eyes open wide. Franticly his sits up, his breathing ragged. Will sits up next to him, “Hey, easy, you’re safe.” Will tells him calmly. Nico looks at him and blinks the nightmare away slowly.
“W…Will?” He croaks. Will nods and gently places a warm hand on Nico’s back rubbing in a slow circle. Angrily Nico wipes at the tears in his eyes. Will takes his hand and pulls him onto his lap wrapping his arms around the younger(or technically older) boy.
“Come on. It’s okay shed some manly death tears on Doctor Will’s shoulder.” Will says. Despite himself the corners of Nico’s mouth turn up. He wraps his arms around Will’s torso. “I love you Nico.” Will whispers into his ear. Will doesn’t expect a reply, knowing his lover gets too embarrassed. They lay back on the bed cuddling trying for sleep again.
“…ve. . y…oo…” Nico mumbles into Will’s chest his cheeks turning red. Will’s eyes open again.
“What was that?” Will ask holding back a grin. Nico’s cheeks grow redder and he mumbles clearer,
“I love you too…”
