It was the warm feeling from the sun's rays that caused me to wake up.. "It seems that I had fallen asleep last night."..."I fell asleep!" I jerked up from my spot on the floor to find that I had indeed fallen asleep. I checked my surroundings for bugs or creatures only to find I was alone.
A sigh of relief left me as I deflate a little. "Man am I lucky." There was a knock at my door as a gruff voice filtered in.
"you still alive, Meat?" Ugh, the wolf man is back. "No, I'm dead." I yell back. a soft chuckle could be heard from the door, "Thats too bad, I had some food to share if you were still kickin'." The mention of food made my stomach growl. "who said the dead can't eat?" I walked over to the door and open it to see him leaning on the door frame, holding what seemed to be a basket. He entered the house. I closed the door and pulled up our chairs from yesterday. we both sat, him a little more easily than me, and began to dig in to the basket.
he eyed me up and down. "You some how look worse from when I last saw you" I flicked a blueberry at him, pegging him in the nose, and causing him to flinch. "what was that for-" I cut him off by standing up and pointing, " Your reputation is what happened, you are well known by the village. They chased me out, And not to mention that some stranger followed me home in a trench coat-" the relaxed wolf suddenly shot up, " A trench coat?"
The sudden interest made my attitude falter, "Yeah, why?" his hackles raised. he grabbed me by the shoulders "Did he follow you?" I was astounded. This wasn't anger, it was fear. This being, that is half man and half wolf, feared a person in a trench coat. "Whats the big deal?"
"The deal is-" A loud gunshot was heard. We both froze. nothing was broke, but there was a smoking hole in the wall above where the stone sat. "Where did you get the stone?" His question broke the silence. I walked towards the window and peeked through the gaps, "it just appeared on my door step with a note." nothing was there, just the trees.
"Shit, I best head to camp. its getting late." He packed up the basket and set it in my chair. "Keep that, you need it." He threw his bag over his shoulder and headed out the door. Odd enough, after he left I didn't feel alone.
I looked back towards the bullet hole for a moment. 'No one I know has a gun... Shit the lights!' I rush out to the shed.
"The hunter stalks the deer not knowing that the wolf follows."
"Are you sure on this? If the stone rejects them it will kill them."
"My friend, If it wanted them dead They wouldn't have survived the night." The trader wiped the charcoal from their arm and shook his head while writing.
"Still..." The stranger aimed down the sight of his rifle. "Of course I dont plan to let them die easily. I'll watch them from a distance, and maybe leave them some gifts."
BANG...
