I woke up to a silent house and sighed, taking a few minutes to collect my thoughts. The glaring light of my clock told me it was currently 7:34 and I cursed at my internal clock. I should be sleeping in, not awake.
If it were just Tuesday I wouldn’t have taken such care to creep through the living room and into the kitchen to make coffee. She literally can sleep through anything. I’d hate to wake up Atlas and Jack however, both of which were sleeping in the living room with Jack on a spare inflatable mattress we found and Daniel on the couch. I stared in surprise when I noticed Gus (our American Longhair kitten) curled up next to Daniel. He was usually wary of people and also a good judge of character, so to see him cuddling with the asshole was quite shocking.
I shook my head and turned to the coffee maker, denying the fact that I just watched Atlas while he slept. I was watching Gus damn it!
Several minutes passed before I finally had a steaming cup of coffee with sugar in it and sighed happily. Time to fully wake up and face another day.
I turned to the pad of paper Tuesday and I leave on the counter to leave messages for each other and quickly scrawled out a note saying I’d be editing in my room yet awake so that she wouldn’t have to worry about waking me up and proceeded back to my room.
It was nice, after a few days of being in New York to be back in the familiar rolling chair situated at my desk. I opened up Adobe Premiere and started the long but strangely calming process of editing Tuesday’s videos, chuckling at some of her jokes and comments. My headphones were on so I didn’t realize someone had opened my door until they spoke.
“Nice room,” Merritt drawled tiredly, walking in and sitting on my bed. “Morning.”
“Well by all means, come in,” I muttered sarcastically before removing my headphones and turning to him. “Did you sleep okay?”
“It was great, nicer than my own bed that’s for certain. Awfully lonely though,” he added playfully.
“Did I ever mention you’re my favourite,” I chuckled. It was true. Henley was nice, but I loved Merritt’s humour. Sure he was too old for me but he was already shaping up to be a great friend.
“What about you?” Merritt questioned. “You’re up awfully early.”
“You’re the mentalist, you tell me,” I smiled before shrugging. “I’m just an early riser. There’s coffee still made if you want any.”
“In a minute, I don’t want to wake the others up,” he stated tiredly. “I feel like they won’t be up for a while.”
“Probably not,” I chuckled. “Tuesday certainly won’t be.”
“Speaking of her, I meant to ask...” he paused for a second. “Why does she call you Amy?”
I laughed. “Oh, that’s just a reference to Doctor Who. I forget how it happened but one day she just started to referring to me as Amy, and herself as the Doctor. It might’ve been a role-play thing or something, but I don’t know. It happened a while ago.”
“Interesting,” he chuckled, “she seems like a laugh.”
I hummed in agreement and turned back to my editing, making a few small cuts and modifications.
