Oliver's POV
"Hey, love. Wake up." I heard Kingston's gruff morning voice call out to me and I smiled to myself. When I opened my eyes I didn't expect to see him fully dressed in a pair of nice fitting jeans and a cream colored sweater. He's never this ready in the morning unless he has work.
Oh.
"You're going to work." I pointed out as my face fell and my mood instantly darkened. I hated it when my Kingy left all day. He usually had to go do something with Michael whether it be visiting a neighboring pack or checking up on things here, I always got left alone.
"I know, baby. I'm sorry. You know I wish I could stay here instead." He gave me a knowing smile and reached his large hand up to stroke my cheek. "It's not all that bad though. Michael gave me a call and told me he had something I needed to look at but he reassured me that I could do it all from here. I just need to be in my office for a little while but I should be done by dinner time, alright love?" I nodded as he leaned down to capture my lips in a long past due kiss. The kiss soon turned quite heated but we were interrupted when a loud cry, that sounded more like a screech, came from Asher's nursery. Both of our heads turned towards the sound and I immediately rose to my feet, grabbing my red robe and throwing it on my nude frame.
"I've gotta go, love. Can you bring him to the office in a little while so I can see him?" King asked, worry lines creasing his face. Whatever he's doing must be important if he can't even stay to help me calm Asher down.
"No worries, babe. Love you." I blew him a quick kiss and we both walked in our opposite directions. When I got to the nursery I found Asher laying on his back in the crib, his little legs kicking in the air and his fist being bitten in his mouth.
"It's okay, bug. Mama's here." I reached my hand down into his crib and scooped him up into my arms. "Shh shh, darling. You're okay." I soothed him as best I could, rocking him slowly as I paced the room and rubbing his back but his crying continued.
"What's wrong, lovey? Mama doesn't like to see his little baby sad." I whispered in his ear but it was no use. It looked like Asher's headspace had dropped since yesterday and he was bobbing around a newborn space. My sweet boy wasn't answering because he didn't know how not because he didn't want to.
"Do you want some milk, bub? Is my baby boy hungry?" I asked cheerily hoping my enthusiasm would help his mood. I felt a soft nod against my chest and smiled to myself as I sat us both down on his rocking chair. I quickly adjusted Asher on my lap and pushed my robe aside before gently moving his head toward my nipple. He latched on almost instantly and looked up at me with big innocent eyes as he drank.
"Good job, baby. Such a good boy for your mama!" I praised him quietly as I brought my hand around his body to stroke his tiny arm. We spent the next twenty minutes just like that, him suckling away while I looked at him adoringly and thanked my lucky stars for such a lovely little pup.
Eventually he pulled away from my pec and just laid his head on my chest, his little fist gripping my robe tightly as if he thought I would leave. "Are you a little cuddly pup today, baby? Mama's little cuddle bug?" A soft giggle went past his lips. After a few more minutes of rocking I carefully got us both up. Asher whined and reached his hands up towards me as I laid him down on the changing table.
"Ma-ma!" Asher wailed out the second his back touched the padded table, hiccupping halfway through the small word. He stretched his hands out towards me and attempted to grip my shirt but I pulled back.
"It's okay, sweet boy. Mama just needs to change you." I stroked his red cheek and wiped a few of his tears away. "You don't wanna stay in a stinky diaper all day do you?" I asked him playfully but internally I was battling with myself, trying to gain enough willpower to not pick my baby right back up and dry all of his tears.
Asher continued with his crying and whimpering the whole way through his change. He got so squirmy, especially when I had to give him his medicine, that I had to buckle him onto the table. I could already tell today was gonna be a clingy day with my baby boy. That's okay though, I love my cuddle bug.
"All done, sweetheart." I told Asher just as I finished strapping his diaper on. He wasn't crying anymore but he was close to it when I moved away from him once again to grab a new pair of jammies. He definitely couldn't handle actual clothes today. Before I did that though I grabbed Asher a rubber teething ring and handed it over. It was immediately brought into his mouth as he tried to bring himself some comfort. While he was distracted I quickly got out a fluffy rainbow footed onesie that zipped down the middle and carefully dressed him in it. "I've got you now, hunbun. Mama's with you again." I said softly as I picked him up off the changing table, now fully clothed and warm. He instantly dropped the teething ring and found a spot on my neck to start suckling on. Other people might find it weird but I know he was just soothing himself in the only way that felt right.
"That's a good boy. All better now." I rubbed my baby's back softly and allowed him to fully calm down for a moment. When he sighed contentedly I knew he was fine to continue.
"Now, mama has lots for us to do today..."
