The beginning of the Outbreak is not a glorious first battle, but the slaughtering of hundreds of villagers and townsfolk, and as many befallen by the Maledicti curse. Settlements that did not have a stone wall were razed within the first few weeks of the Outbreak. Mirthenhelm was rather lucky to be attacked by a smaller group of Maledicti during the initial push.
However, the village could not hold in a fifteen-year war, and was bound to be destroyed. Many of the villagers were cursed and sent to the Sea of Flames, and only a few were lucky enough to be near Akarin during the rescue and be saved.
