{A/N: Alright. It's time. Angst. I'm sorry. Also: TRIGGER WARNING FOR THIS ONE SHOT. PLEASE KEEP YOURSELF SAFE. THERE WILL BE DEPRESSION AND POSSIBLY CUTTING/SUICIDE. PLEASE STAY SAFE.

Alright. Enjoy.}

Dean and Cas. Two halves of one whole. Not in that romantic way, although, no one can be too sure about that. No, the two men represented something more.

Castiel; angel of the lord. Dean Winchester; human. Two species that should never meet forming a bond that nothing can sever. They were so closely connected there wasn't much unknown about each other.

Yet a secret was hidden.

Dean discovered it one night I'm the bunker. He couldn't sleep, so he wandered the halls thinking about whatever it is that goes through a hunter's head. That's when he heard it.

Crying, coming from the bathroom.

The hunter quietly opened the door to see something he hoped he never would.

Cas was sitting on the toilet, tears running down his face, a blade in hand, and cuts on his wrist.

The angel looked up at Dean in shock, but before he could say anything the hunter enveloped him in a hug, and didn't let go until Cas was gasping for breath.

"Why?"

Such a simple question, Cas thought, with too many answers.

He went for the simplest one.

"Because I deserve it."

Dean just gaped at him.

"Dean I- I have messed up so many times I am not even certain why I was ever brought back by anyone. Messing up Sam, working with Crowley, the Leviathan-" his voice broke. "I just shouldn't be here anymore."

Dean reached over to Cas and grabbed his face, forcing him to meet his eyes. "You deserve to be here. Do you know how many times I've messed up? Sam, Dad, Jessica, Mom, Bobby, Jo, Ellen, Ash? All my fault. Hell wasn't even enough punishment for all I've done! And you deserve it? You don't. So stop believing it."

Cas smiled sadly. "Perhaps we both deserve it."

"Perhaps."

"I- I don't want to be alive, Dean. But I'm afraid to die."

"Me too."

Their voices were nothing more than whispers now.

"Maybe it'll be easier if- if we do it together."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"Maybe we'll see each other later?"

"I sure as Hell hope so."

The next morning Sam woke up to birds chirping and the sun shining. He walked to the bathroom, and what he saw changed everything.

He was alone, all alone.

But as he burned their bodies the hunter couldn't help but smile, and look up at the sky.

"I'll miss you guys," he whispered, "but do me a favour and expel all the sexual tension okay?"

With tears in his eyes Sam turned and walked back to the house. Up in Heaven, a man and an angel smiled, both finally at peace, together.
