I really like The Winter Soldier's suit, partly because it looks so frickin badass, but mostly because of the design, thoughts and meaning behind it. I know far from everything about this suit, but I do know a bit, which I will now add to your burden of 'WTH MARVEL!?'. But do you know what a 1940's straight jacket looks like? No? Well let me show you:
Don't those straps seem a bit familiar? Oh yeah! Look at The Winter Soldier suit!:
Straps! Straps, straps, straps!
They represent retaining him, like he's some kind of dangerous beast that needs to be restrained. And let's not forget that Bucky is from the 1940's, so he knows what they represent. He also wears a muzzle, but it doesn't look like it's worn for protection, nor is it worn to hide identity, because even if people knew his face, HYDRA was hiding him too well to be found. That muzzle is worn as a constant reminder that he's not worthy of speaking, that he doesn't have the privilege to do that.
Now, i could go on and on about this, but these were just the two things i think about the most. If anyone wants me to go in more detail about this, tell me, and i will add even more to our already very heavy burden of trauma.
