Choi Beomgyu.

9th of March.

Winter abruptly ended as March swelled. A taste of early spring rain swept over the town of Beverly, bathing the streets with white streaks, triggering the smell of wet cement. Fog blurred the silhouettes of the buildings, traffic lights, posts, and billboards. Everyone scurried underneath their umbrellas, some even in their squeaky plastic boots, desperate to get to their destination as the gutter threatened flood. Cafes offered hot brews, tempting passersby to stop for a sip. Beeps and honks filled the air as heavy traffic kicked in. Children played tag by the pavement. Students sit inside convenience stores slurping instant noodles. Employers squeeze into buses to finish their midday schedule.

"There's somethin' bout the way. The street looks when it's just rained. There's a glow off the pavement. You walk me to the car."

"And you know I wanna ask you to dance right there in the middle of the parking lot. Yeah."

I remained unfazed, listening to Taylor Swift in my newly bought car. After months of convincing myself to steer away from the hustle of commuting, I seized a fortune from my credit to purchase a decent auto- it was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made, shit. Today, I drove around town, taking photos of Beverly in its misty glamour.

But what made it special was the fact that Y/N tagged along.

"We're drivin' down the road, I wonder if you know. I'm tryin' so hard not to get caught up now."

"But you're just so cool, run your hands through your hair, absent mindedly makin' me want you."

I glanced at her. She was staring out of the window. She busily admired the hazy neon signs and blinking lights from the passing vehicles, eyes aglow. Y/N ran a finger against the pane, tracing the raindrops racing to reach the bottom.

"Hey," I called. "You okay?"

"Mm."

"What's bothering you, Y/N?"

"Nothing." She shrugged. "Just watching the kids play in the rain. I wish I could join them."

"You're too old for that, come on."

"Ah."

"Seriously," I sighed. "What's the matter?"

She fell silent.

"And I don't know how it gets better than this. You take my hand and drag me head first fearless."

"And I don't know why but with you I'd dance in a storm in my best dress fearless."

I kept my eyes on the road. However, I held her hand in mine. Y/N watched our fingers intertwine, palms rubbing against each other's warmth. Her flustered reaction made me grin. It's been 3 months since our friendship blossomed.

"You can tell me anything," I cooed. "I'm here to listen."

"I was thinking about grandma."

I nodded, encouraging her to continue. Y/N leaned back in comfort, lips pulled to a frown. She was trembling, so I loosened my grip. I batted her a glance.
