nine - making up in october

——

ariana: hey, baby. can i come see you?

ariana: please?

y/n: okay

i sighed in relief over y/n's response, even if it wasn't much, because she had still responded to my text. it had been almost two weeks since that night and i have been dying to see her—but she asked for space, so i gave it to her.

the drive to her place was fucking nerve racking. i didn't know if she would cry, yell, or even "break up" with me.

i took deep breaths as i got out of my car and walked up to her door, shoving my hands i my pockets. it was the slightest bit cold outside, seeing as it was the first week of october in florida.

i knocked on her door wearily and took a step back, waiting for y/n to answer. there was nothing, and then shuffling footsteps and a loud sniff from the opposite side, and then y/n opened the door.

she squinted cutely at the bright light as she opened the door, making me smile softly. she was in a plain white shirt and those cute little plaid pajama pants i loved on her. y/n looked down at me and wiped her eyes with the palms of her hands like a little kid.

"hi." i spoke quietly, not wanting to scare her off somehow. y/n coughed and cleared her throat before nodding back at me and stepping away to let me in. i twisted my lips to one side and walked in, the two of us just facing each other as y/n closed the door.

y/n sniffed again as i rocked awkwardly on my heels, not knowing what to say. she bit her lip softly and opened her arms wide to me, and i immediately walked up to her and wrapped my arms around her neck to pull her into me. i sighed into her chest as she tightly pulled her arms around my waist, digging her nose into my hair.

my eyes felt heavy as i sniffed, "i'm sorry, y/n/n." i cried, holding her tighter. y/n only hummed in response and leaned down to grasp my thighs and pick me up. i instantly wrapped my legs around her torso as she walked us to her couch and sat down, not letting go of me.

her head was in my neck and she breathed softly into it as i stroked her hair, lightly kissing her scalp. she cleared her throat, "it's okay. you didn't mean it; i know that now. i'm sorry, too." she pulled herself out of my neck and looked into my eyes.

i sighed at her words and held her cheeks. she didn't need to be sorry—she had done nothing wrong. "no, no. don't apologize, y/n. you did absolutely nothing wrong, this is on me. okay?" y/n looked down sadly and nodded, even though i knew she didn't agree with me.

"can i kiss you?" she whispered, like she was afraid i'd say no. i smiled widely and nodded, a small smile spreading on y/n's face at my response. she leaned forward and gently kissed me, her arms wrapping around my body and pulling me close to her.

i hummed into her mouth, missing her like hell after those two weeks. to my displeasure, y/n pulled back and smiled at me again. she wet her lips, her eyes darting all over my face. "i-i love you, ari." she whispered again.

my eyes widened and my heart burst and i squealed at hearing those words for the first time in years. i leaned forward to kiss her again, our teeth clashing. i reluctantly pulled away and giggled. "i love you, y/n."
