Kanebi's Baptism finally came and went her dedication. It was one of the events that Irene and Andrew would remember forever. The doctor said that due to some complications during Irene's gestation period,she might not be able to give birth again. So Irene considered Kanebi as her one and only treasured jewel and Kamene her treasured secret. Life went on with Kanebi and her family.
She never lacked anything thanks to her father's wealth. No one dared to mention the mystery behind Kanebi's late twin brother. And even Irene had warned everyone, family members and friends not to mention anything to Kanebi when she was older. It was like Irene was trying to shut the door on her past but each time the thought of Kanebi's first year birthday swam into her mind,she let the door open slowly. She couldn't shut it completely because she didn't have the power to do so. The only person that had the power to do that was Kanebi.
She was a very lovely girl,but quite different from her peers. She was also too smart and playful for her age which endeavored her to her father who thought earlier that it would have been better,had his son been alive. Nine months after her birth,she took her first step after one morning devotion one day. It was an emotional moment to both parents as they watched their one and only child trot slowly around the large sitting room. Irene felt proud of being a mother of such a child. In fact Kanebi was like two-in-one to her that soon, sorrowful memories of Kamene were no longer remembered. It was like God was compensating her for the agony of losing her son.
It was like a dream come true when finally she walked, step by step towards them, smiling as usual and then finally falling at their feet in laughter. Even Mama attested that Kanebi was one in a million. The joy of motherhood was something that every mother prayed to experience in a lovely way. Though Kanebi was still at the blabbering stage, Irene knew that soon her daughter will finally acknowledge her as her mother.
And a month before her one year old birthday, Irene and Andrew had already started making preparations for a lovely celebration bearing in mind that it was also the first year anniversary of Kamene's demise. It was like planning for two celebrations at a time but the second was only between Irene and Andrew.
