Bill stayed in school until May of the next year, and then he told his mom goodbye as he left for basic training. He went to Oklahoma at first for basic training, and then he went to Missouri for advanced training. His training was hard and challenging, but he made it through. Bill thought if he didn't get through it, Jim would find a way to start messing with him again. After there fight the year before, Bill did not want to go through that again. His graduation from school was two weeks before Christmas, so he knew he would get to go home. Over the last seven months Bill made several new friends, but knew he might never see them again after graduation. They helped one another get through the training, and get through every tough situation that came along. The last night on base they sat up talking, everyone wanted to find ways to keep in touch after they left.
A few days before Christmas Bill flew back home, Magie met him at the airport. Marie and Jim did not know he was coming home, and he wanted to keep it that way. Magie and Bill talked all the way home that day; it was like he had been gone for years. He told her about everything he went through, and all the people he had met. That night they pulled into their mom's drive, when he got into the house Marie was so happy to see him. She hit him at first because he did not tell her he was coming home, and then she hugged him with tears in her eyes. Jim was happy to see him as well, that surprised everyone especially Bill. They all sat down and ate dinner, and then Magie surprised everyone when she spoke up and said she was pregnant. Everyone was happy for Magie; Bill wondered who the dad was. Shortly after Bill had left, Magie had met a young man named Joe; they got serious about one another really fast. Bill was glad for Magie, and wanted to meet Joe.
After dinner Bill sat and pondered the thought, when was he going to be happy with someone? It was a question he had pondered since he was with Ann, and he knew he still wanted to be with her. Marie watched Bill over the next few days in wonder; she knew something was on his mind.
"Bill are you alright? It seems something is troubling you."
"I think so, why do you ask?"
"Well I have been watching you, and it just seems to me like you're in space lately."
"Well I was just thinking about someone."
"Anyone I know?"
"I think so, do you remember Ann?"
"Yes I do, that was the young lady that Jim didn't want you to see isn't it?"
"Yes I was just wondering if I would be as happy as Magie, if I had not broken up with her."
"Well Hun there is no way to know, I can tell you if it is meant to be then it will be. I promise you, you will be happy but it might take time."
"I know mom thank you, I feel a little better now."
Later that day Bill got to thinking; he was trying to get the nerve to go see Ann and talk to her. After thinking for a few minutes, he had decided just to go and see her and tell her how he felt. When Bill pulled in her drive he almost lost his nerve, but he knew he had to talk to Ann. He walked up to the door, and took a deep breath before ringing the bell. When he rang the bell, his hand was shaking and heart was pounding in anticipation of what was to come. Just as Bill turned to go Ann came to the door, he turned around and they stared at one another. Bill had forgotten how beautiful she was; he was lost in her eyes once again. Her smile was like the sun, and her nightgown showed her figure more then ever. Bill was lost for words; he was thinking to himself that she looked better then ever. Before Bill could think of the right thing to say, Ann rapped her arms around him and kissed him. Her lips were soft and moist, her skin soft to the touch, and she smelled sweet. Bill could not help himself, but just to hold on to the kiss. He thought to him self that maybe; just maybe this was the one he was meant to be with.
