"Hey, guys?" I asked as I walked over to the computer. "Yeah?" they both replied, "do you guys see that on the monitor?" I said, pointing to the screen. "OH CRAP-"
Suddenly there was a loud explosion that sounded like it was from the back of the base. Someone had found us. "CRAP, GO GO GO!" I couldn't tell who was yelling; the whole base was thrown off balance, I could hear a fire roaring in the distance. We got disoriented and ended up separated. Amy and Noah can handle themselves; I know that for a fact. Amy's probably gone off to get a gun, and Noah's top priority is to get his sister to safety.
I ran out of the house, grabbing an extra coat on my way. I could hear more explosions going off in the distance, but I was already running through the forest. One thing is for sure as an anti-hero, you can help people all you want, but you'll never be seen as a proper hero.
All I could do was hope the others had gotten out safely and not gotten caught. Suppose we get caught; it'll be game over for us. We don't have any kind of extensive camera system or underground garages full of fancy cars. Our base is in this old cabin in the woods with some basic appliances and an old PC. We found a security camera and put it at the edge of the house so we could see if anyone ever approached. But it needs to be monitored almost 24/7 because we had no motion sensors.
I say had because, from all the explosions I heard, I can assume the base is totalled. It won't be long before one of us is seen or get caught. It's raining, so hopefully that'll stop the fire from spreading to the forest.
In all honesty, being an anti-hero is hard. It's good work but there's no money in it; we have to steal and get scraps off the streets. It feels like we've been doing this forever. Ever since I turned 11 I've been doing this work.
Yeah, I know what your thinking "11 is way too young for a kid to be on their own!" well, I wasn't on my own.
~flashback~
I was running again; I needed to run. I kept running and found an ally to hide in. I can hear something behind the trash bins. "Hello? Is anyone there?" I asked.
"STAY BACK. I HAVE A PIPE." I heard someone yell from behind the bins. "I'm not here to hurt; I'm hiding too", And that's how I met Amy, being threatened behind a bakery trying to get food. What a great first impression am I right?
~flashback time skip~
"2 months and we still can't get any stable food or income! THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING" Amy was yelling again. I'm pretty sure she has anger issues or something. "Stop yelling Amy. I hear something..." I whispered. There were two pairs of footsteps coming closer. "hello?" the stranger was getting closer, but it sounds like a kid? No kids are ever in this part of town. "I'm not here to hurt you I just need help!" The stranger was way closer now, only a couple more steps and they would find us. "Don't come any closer!" Amy had now jumped out from her hiding spot and was now standing in front of me so the stranger couldn't see me.
"Please calm down; I just need to take care of my sister and heard you guys were helping kids..." I now realized one looked like a toddler, and the other couldn't be older than 10. "Yes, you've heard correctly" I stood up and stood next to Amy.
Hehe cliffhanger~
