Lila stared out of her window intensely. Ever since that day she's been obsessed with the Ladybug hero. Not just that. She's taken a habit of being bitter around Adrien. She didn't like him and she'd make it noticeable when no one was around. He didn't seem to like her much either too. But both pretended in front of Marinette who was obvious to their mutual hatred.
"Hey is everything alright between you and Adrien?" Lila looked up from her lunch. She scrunched her nose with a tight smile.
"No, why?" Marinette shrugged.
"I don't know, you two don't talk much,"
Because I don't like him! Lila chuckled.
"Everything's fine don't worry," she said with assurance. Marinette smiled nodding.
"Good because I was planning a party for his birthday-" Lila internally groaned.
"I-Is that so?" She muttered. Marinette nodded. She began to rant on and on about the boy talking about the details the people who'd come and more. Lila rolled her a eyes behind her back.
He's not even that special...she thought bitterly.
"And you! Have the most important job!" She frowned. Marinette grinned excitedly.
"You're going to bring him to the party!" Her eyes widened.
"What?" The latter nodded. Lila shook her head.
"Absolutely not! I refuse to do tha-" she stopped mid sentence. She cleared her throat looking at Marinette.
"What?" She sighed. She couldn't say no to her. Her chest tightened and she sighed. With a slight nod Marinette squealed.
So all week was spent the same. Watching Marinette get excited about everything and watch her pour her heart into the surprise party.
"Kim put the decorations a bit higher, Max make sure the lights are all green when he walks in then yellow and orange then green again, Millene and Ivan can you go get the cake at the bakery? Thanks! And Alya and Nino go get Adrien!" She finally looked at Lila. The brunette sighed as she had finished placing gifts together.
"Lila!" She turned to her friend who had an over excited look on. She handed Rose her clipboard then grabbed Lila's hand.
"Take care of that," she sad as she dragged her friend out. Lila frowned.
"Where are we going?" She asked.
"Well I wanna take care of the fireworks as well! But not without you," Lila bit her lip. As they got to the roof they were met with plenty of boxes. Marinette bent down starting to fix them in a straight row. Lila looked down. She hated this feeling. She hated everything about it.
"Hey," Marinette hummed.
"Mari I, uh," she turned around dusting herself off as she stood up. She looked at her humming.
"Yes?" She asked. Lila looked down again. This didn't feel right. This wasn't even about her! Why was she upset over it? Adrien's a nice guy he's always there for Mari! Yeah he's a nice guy.
A pair of hands cupped her face making her look up.
"Hey is everything alright?" Mari asked.
"I-"
"I hope you're not getting any ideas," she frowned.
"What?" Marinette looked down blushing.
"I love Adrien yeah," she muttered. Those words dug into Lila like no other.
"I kno-"
"But our friendship is just as valuable," her eyes widened and her heartbeat picked up.
"So don't get the wrong idea, I may be in love but I'll always be there when you need me, so tell me what's bothering you!" This feeling. She felt so... miserable...it felt as though she was the bad one, Mari cared so much. She couldn't do this to her.
So instead she shook her head putting a hand on the one on her cheek.
"It's alright Mari, I'm fine," Marinette gave her one last look before she nodded turning around.
"Well seems we're done he-" she then heard the front door open. They turned to each other.
"Adrien!" They chorused. They ran downstairs to see the rest awaiting as well in front of the door. Just as they made it to the front the two stopped. They saw Nino and Alya standing alone. No blonde in sight.
"What's wrong?"
"Where's Adrien?"
"Didn't his father say he could come?"
"Did he ditch us?"
Marinette walked over to her friends taking Alya's hands in her own.
"What's happening?" She asked. Alya sighed.
"Marinette, listen, I'm really sorry-"
"Alya, where is Adrien," her voice was shaking. Lila glanced at her friend.
"When Nathalie went to get him we found out that he wasn't there," her eyes widened. She shook her head.
"No, no that's not possible," she took out her phone scrolling through it.
"I know his program by heart! H-He has Chinese then fencing a-and he was supposed to be there-" she looked back up at her friend then at Nino. He shook his head.
"They looked all around for him, he wasn't inside the house," he replied. Marinette looked at her feet as tears started to well up. The clipboard fell from her hands. She shoved them aside and ran.
"Marinette !" Everyone yelled after her. Lila looked at her friends.
"I'll get her, someone try and call Adrien," she said before running after the raven. Marinette closed her eyes mid run not caring about who she bumped into leaving Lila to apologise everytime.
"Marinette ! Crap, sorry sir, MARINETTE!" The girl was so deep in her emotions she didn't see the upcoming truck. Just as she did she froze headlights reflecting in her eyes.
"Marinette !"
