"May I please know your name? You have never once told me?" I ask the smart man calmly.
"My name is Ethan. You would have known that sooner if you had not decided to imprison me for an entire month alone in the dark of your dungeons." He snaps.
"I do apologize heavily for that. I was only afraid that you would escape or the hero might actually come after you. I didn't know he would have left you behind. I am sorry." I say as I offer my hand to Ethan.
He looks like he is about to smack my hand away, but his eyes turn towards mine and turn soft. He then holds my hand softly and shakes my hand firmly. Telling me both I am sorry and thank you at the same time.
What is this feeling? No, put them away, I can't have emotions.
After the handshake I pull my hand away rather quickly and walk toward the open doorway in the palace.
"You have a right to be angry. You know that right?" I firmly say.
"What?" Ethan says with a bit of relief in his voice.
"You have a right to be angry. What should be the pillar of your happiness and hope is your demise and death." I loudly announce to him so he remembers. He stays silent and begins to settle into his new room. One that has a window and overlooks the village down below. It is a great view. It's just a very lonely view.
"May I ask you a question?" Ethan softly says as he turns to me. I turn around to face him as well.
"You may ask your question, but please don't let the question be about how I became who I am and why I was shunned from the village. Now that I've said that, what is the question?"
Ethan pauses for a moment. He has to rethink his question. Good thing I mentioned what question was off limits.
"I want to know what your name is. You asked me for mine and I never got to ask what your name was." Ethan turns toward me to face him.
"My name is Damien." I turn away after I say my name.
As I head toward the darkness in hall I hear him softly say,
"Thank you Damien."
I feel a smile come across my face. I quickly turned my face away from him so he wouldn't see it. I nod my head and walk away from him.Oh god...did I just smile? Did that expression come from my face? I can not have that happening. We mustn' lose ourselves in this war. Be grateful you turned away in time.
