Now, their reaction may have seemed a little odd. It's just a boyfriend. People get boyfriends all the time!
But not Pink.
As a matter of fact, Pink had never expressed interest in anyone in the many years they'd known her. That's why this was so shocking.
Well that, and also they're both in love with her.
"Wait, why didn't you tell us about this earlier?" Orange said, still recoiling from the sudden news.
"I thought you'd get mad and overprotective," Pink said.
...
"Well, not you, Orange. I just mean Yellow," Pink corrected.
"Hey! Why me?" Yellow questioned.
"I guess it makes sense, considering what happened last summer..." Orange said.
"What...happened last summer?" said Red.Orange, Yellow, and Pink stared at each other.
"We shouldn't talk about it."
"Yeah, we shouldn't talk about it."
"The past is in the past."
"Yo, last summer was wild though."
"Dude, we just agreed to not talk about it."
"Sorry."An expression of confusion crossed Red's face for a moment, but then he casually moved on.
"So, these are the fabled Orange and Yellow? They're a lot...shorter than I had imagined."
"That's just Orange, mate. I'm only an inch shorter than you," Yellow said.
"Whatever dude, you're still short," Red provoked.
"No I'm n-"
"Drop it, both of you," Pink intervened. "You're both tiny."
"Yeah," Red said, "tiny".
At this, Yellow began turning red.
He opened his mouth to yell, but Orange quickly covered it. "Shut up," they whispered in Yellow's ear, "don't say anything you might regret".Yellow was smart, but he had a habit of letting his emotions get the better of him. Especially when it came to Pink. They grew up together, and Yellow always cared for her greatly. Right now, he was seething. It wasn't about being called short. It was about how Pink, the sweetest girl he knew, somehow liked a guy with enough audacity to insult a man he was supposed to be impressing.
Orange hated getting involved in drama, but when they did, they acted as a mediator. Though, in this situation, it was especially hard to try to keep a clear head. They were heartbroken. Orange considered Pink their closest friend. Despite this, Pink obviously liked Yellow more. This was fine with Orange. They knew that Pink and Yellow were childhood friends. Besides, Yellow was their friend, and it did them no favors to be jealous of him. But seeing Pink do nothing about Yellow being hurt was confusing. How do you not defend your best friend from someone you've known for a month at most? And that line of thought was accompanied by their cold jealousy of Pink's new boyfriend. But Orange kept quiet. There had to be at least one sane person here.
There was an awkward silence until Pink decided to speak.
"So...maybe this was a mistake. Let's just go, Red."
Pink turned and walked away, but Red stayed back for a moment. He got in Yellow's face and growled, "Back off, bro. She's mine", before running after Pink.Orange and Yellow looked at each other, and they began to giggle.
Just who did this guy think he was? Some kind of Alpha male?
Then reality hit them.Pink's first relationship was an asshole, and more importantly, an idiot.
