I dragged myself out of bed, checking the time. It was 12:34am. I aised an eyebrow in confusion. Even for a sunday, Missy always comes to wake me before 11am. Maybe she was just letting me sleep in later today...I did have a late night after all. I shook off the lingering questions and made my way downstairs. It was quiet today, and yes, I know sundays usually are, but even so...it was just strange. To my surprise, Missy wasn't around. I searched all the rooms, but she was nowhere at all. Maybe she had just gone to get some supplies...no, Missy would have left a note.
Suddenly, I heard a strange noise coming from the basement. It sounded like something heavy being lugged across the floor. I listened closely for a moment when I heard what sounded like metal clanging onto more metal. I had never heard these noises from the basement before. In fact, I never knew what brother did down there. I'd never dare to go against big brother's orders and venture that room, but I was curious to see what big brother was so busy with. But like I said, I'd never disobey big brother, so I turned my head and went back to my room. I sat on my bed, tying to think about what was going on. Missy was missing, the basement has strange noises coming from it, and Big brother was probably mad at me. I was in a bit of a mess, wasn't I? I rolled over on my side, staring right at my phone. I could call him, then all of this wouldn't matter.
I reached over and grabbed my phone, opening it to see three missed calls. two were from Makoto and the other from Seiki. I noticed something strange though. The calls from Makoto were from last night, but I hadn't heard my phone go off. Seiki's was the most recent, about an hour ago. Seeing as Makoto's seemed more urgent, I called her cell. I waited for a few minutes until the phone went to voice mail. That was strange. I called again, waiting as usual. Again, it went to voice mail. I felt nervous all of a sudden. She tried to call me two times, but doesn't try again later. She doesn't even answer when I called her back. Makoto never missed a phone call unless it was for good reason.
I dailed Seiki's number, waiting for him to pick up. "Aya" He called through the phone, knowing it was me. "Seiki, can we meet up?" I asked, hoping he said yes. "Yeah, I need to talk to you actually. In our place, ok?" He said. I agreed and then hung up, quickly getting dressed and doing my hair. I didn't tell Seiki about Makoto during our call because I felt like I was being watched. It was weird, I often felt like I was being watched....when Brother was mad at me. Maybe it was just me, maybe I was just paranoid. I ignored this feeling and quickly made my way out the house.
I sat at the place waiting for Seiki, checking my phone every few minutes. "Hey, Aya" I tuned to see Seiki running over. "Seiki." He looked out of breath. He stopped in font of me, trying to catch his breath. "Aya, Makoto is...has she tried to contact you?" Seiki said, finally catching his breath. "That's what I wanted to ask you about?" I said, feeling my heart sink and my stomach turn. "Seiki, has she rang you?" My voice with more panic. "Yeah, but i missed her calls. I called her back, but no answer." He looked around, face full of concentration. "I was hoping you had spoke to her." He looked back at me. "no, the phone went straight to voice mail" I said, shaking my head.
"Didn't you ask your brother? He was with her last, right?" Seiki got his phone out, scrolling through his contacts. I shook my head. "I haven't seen my brother today." I said, my voice quiet. "He's missing, too?" Seiki asked. I shook my head. "No, I mean, I haven't talked to him. I know he's home, but.." Seiki paused and looked at me. "Then lets go to yours and ask him where she is o is he knows anything." Seiki began walking. I don't know why, but I felt so off by it all. I just felt as though we shouldn't go to brother. It was rather unsettling. "Seiki!" I called. He tuned to me, waiting for me to continue. "Why don't we try Makoto's house instead. My brother is busy right now." I stared down at the floor, hoping Seiki would go along with it. Big brother was mad at me, and bothering him when he was busy would only make him madder, and I love my big brother. Seiki nodded and agreed with me, walking over to me and grabbing my arm, running with me close behind.
We knocked on the door and waited. Not long after, Makoto's mother answered the door. "Oh, it's you two." Her face full of disappointment. "You mean, Makoto's not home either?" Seiki asked. It was clear from the look on her mother's face that she was hoping for Makoto to be here instead of us. "No, I haven't seen her since she left to meet you two yesterday." Her mother sighed. "I rang her, but there was no answer." Seiki and I exchanged looks. "She tried calling us, but missed the calls. When we tried calling back, she didn't answer." I said with concern. "Have you tried the police?" Seiki said. "Yes, but they said to wait twenty four hours and call back if she hand't come back." I could see the worry in her mothers face. "Well, we won't stop looking until then." Seiki added. Her mother gave us a kind smile. "Thank you, but don't tire yourselves out." It wasn't like we had a choice. Makoto wouldn't rest a bone if it were us, and we were the same for her.
Seiki and I walked around town for hours, asking around. No one had any news for us. Not one person saw her yesterday. We finally met back up to rest. It was getting late, and we were getting more worried. Makoto's mother said she'd call us if anything happened, but no news from he either. "Hey, Aya." I looked at Seiki, who handed me a drink. "She'll be ok." Seiki tried to reassure me. I buried my face in my knees. I was so worried about Makoto, but I was also worried about Missy and brother. I hadn't heard from any of them today, and everything seemed so off. I know I had Seiki, who was enough to make me happy, but I needed to know they were ok. Brother is a sick person, if Missy is gone, who will look after him? I can't control brother like Missy can. "Hey, Aya." I didn't look at Seiki, instead I tilted my head a little. "I noticed you seem a little off today. Do you wanna talk about it?" I lifted my head up to give Seiki a smile. "I'm just worried about Makoto." He shook his head and pulled me close. "It's not just Makoto though, is it?" He asked. He knew me too well at times. I shook my head. "It's just....stuff at home." I said, not truly wanting to tell him about it. "Like what? you can tell me, Aya. We are lovers and that's what we're here for." He entwined his fingers with mine. "I just feel so off there. Missy, the house maid, she's missing. And brother is..." I paused. "What is it?" He turned his head to me. "I don't know....He's just always in his basement. And today, I heard strange noises coming from there." I shook my head, wondering if I should have said anything.
Just then, my phone began to ring. "Hello?" I answered. "Aya, will you be home for dinner today?" I jumped up to my feet and spoke. "Missy? where have you been?" I asked. "Milady? will you be joining us?" I paused. Missy completely ignored my question. "Y..yes." I said into the phone. "Wonderful. Oh, and young master will be with us, too." She chirped back. "That's good news." I was hesitant to say, but managed to force the words out. With that, Missy hung up. I sat back down next to Seiki, not saying a word, just staring off. "Is everything ok?" He turned to face me. I nodded and smiled to reassure him. Missy never ignored me like that. It was weird, Missy would never do that.
Just then, Seiki's phone rang. "Hello?" He answered. "What? ok, I understand. thank you, goodbye." He then hung up. " What was it?" I stood up and asked. "They found Makoto." I could tell by his face that it wasn't good news.
