The blade slipped through your fingers as Y/n launched it at Thanos' army. You quickly threw your fist to the ground, effectively killing a group of war dogs. You pushed yourself to your feet and Y/n head snapped around as a hand grabbed your wrist. You were prepared to deliver a swift punch but your eyes landed on Bucky Barnes. Some of his thick locks stuck to his forehead from the extensive action they were all involved in, but he still looked handsome as ever.

"Wanda and Vision need us!" He shouted over the loud noise of battle.

Y/n nodded and his hand slipped into yours as they took off towards the forest to save your friends. Upon arrival they found Wanda trying to extract the stone while Thanos stalked closer. Her heart pounded at the sight of the titan, he held such power and it was frightening. You heard Wanda cry out as she was forced to kill the man she loved. Y/n made the first move and sprinted towards a rock and bounced off of it, landing a punch on the titan. His face turned in the slightest and he turned to Y/n and reared back to punch you when Bucky let out a war cry and hit him from the other side to protect you.

The two of you had always had a good dynamic.

Y/n was close friends with Steve and he told you countless stories of his best friend who'd been lost in a war he shouldn't have been in. When you finally figured out that the feared Winter Solider was Steve's old friend James Buchanan Barnes after facing him you had to trust Steve. After he was pulled from the water by the super-soldier, Steve wholeheartedly believed that his friend was still in there and he could get him back but he would need Y/n and Sam's help. You had always put your trust in Steve and he had never failed you, so you weren't going to let him down.

The accords happened and you were locked up for helping out Steve but not without meeting his best friend first. Bucky wasn't looking for a friend but he couldn't help but smile at the pure sarcasm and light that shone from you. Y/n chose to watch over Bucky till he was released from cryo and when he woke up the two became quick friends. You spent hours upon hours with one another and the friendly bond turned into much more. Longing looks from across the room when you would be laughing with M'Baku. His hands traced your hips as he steadied you from tripping on the marble flooring. Close calls were that the two nearly kissed but were always interrupted.

They bonded on a level no one else could understand.

They both had nightmares of the things that had led them to this place. They found comfort in tight embraces and soothing words shared during late nights.

Y/n had fallen hard and quick for Bucky.

It wasn't hard, with his looks and boyish charm, you were hooked. The two could banter back and forth and his genuine care and concern for you only made Y/n fall harder. You wanted to kiss him, hold him, and tell him all of the things you loved about him that he couldn't seem to find lovable.

Little did you know Bucky felt the same.

The team of superheroes all took turns attacking Thanos, hoping they were giving Wanda enough time to destroy the mind stone. Y/n grunted as you dug your hand into the ground and tried to build a quick wall of rock but Thanos only kicked through it before kicking you out of the way. You went flying into the cliffside, your body painfully crashing into the side. Y/n's head spun as you groaned in pain as you took in a shaky breath. Bucky's eyes widened and he pushed himself up before sprinting towards you and sliding on his knees to your side.

"Shit doll, are you alright?" Bucky asked concernedly as he carefully helped you to sit up.

"I'm alright Buck, we have to he-" You started but stopped when loud screaming sounded out.

Bucky moved in front of you slightly as you watched in horror as Thanos ripped the mind stone from Visions head and  dropped his body before he placed it in the gauntlet. Y/n's eyes were wide with horror as you grabbed Bucky's forearm tightly as Thanos finally completed it. Not too long after Thor drove his axe into Thanos's chest, causing the titan to groan in pain. Bucky stood up and carefully pulled Y/n up behind him, making sure there was plenty of distance between them and Thanos.

Thanos screamed in agony as Thor pushed it deeper into his chest. Everyone was silent as Thanos sighed and said, "You should have gone for the head."

Y/n's eyes widened in horror as he snapped and there was a large flash of light. Bucky turned and grabbed Y/n and pulled you into his chest, his arms tightening around you. You fisted the front of his suit as everything became deadly silent. Bucky and Y/n's eyes met before they looked over to find Thanos gone. Buckys grip on you tightened as Steve rose to his feet, clutching his side, "Thor, where'd he go?"

You leaned closer to Bucky and his hold onto you tightened, "Bucky, I don't like this."

Bucky leaned forward and pressed his lips to your forehead as he mumbled, "It's gonna be alright doll. We're gonna get out of this one."

"Captain Rogers."

Everyone turned to look at King T'Challa as he gave Steve a curt nod before he slowly turned to ashes and blew away. Y/n eyes moved to Wanda only to watch your best friend blow away like she was nothing. Okoye began to shout for her king as you heard Rocket mourning Groot. Suddenly your body felt cold and your breathing felt constricted as an overwhelming sense of dread washed over Y/n. You began to shake as you tearfully said, "Bucky, what's happening?"

Buckys eyes shifted to you only to find Y/n filled with fear as you looked up at him. His heart stopped as he watched your whole body tremble, "Bucky I'm sorry."

His arms pulled you closer to him as he tried to hold you tighter in hopes Y/n wouldn't leave him, "No, you're gonna be alright, doll."

You inhaled deeply as you reached up and cupped his face as tears ran down your cheeks, "I love you. I love you so much Bucky."

Tears began to fall down his cheeks as he looked at you sadly, "I love you doll, I've loved you since I laid eyes on you. I'll love you till the end of time."

Y/n choked back a sob as you pulled his lips to yours. The two kissed deeply, putting every feeling into that kiss. Bucky grasped onto your hips, hoping that this wasn't their ending. Then with a flash, he felt everything disappear and he quickly opened his eyes that now all that remained of his love was ashes. Bucky fell to his knees and let out a guttural cry as he fisted the ashes in his hands and sobbed.

Their happy ending was now ashes and left to the wind...
