(M/N) Evans was an ordinary male, but his life was not so ordinary. For one thing, he had a witch as a sister, and I do mean an actual witch. She could cast spells and brew potions, but she mostly just complained about a boy named James Potter. He sounded like the worst, but (M/N) knew that he only had one side of the story, so he tried to keep an open mind. Then one summer, she brought him home with her to introduce him to the family. The younger male instantly took a liking to him, which greatly relieved James, for he knew how important the boy was to Lily. He eventually got to meet James' friends, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew, who he also got along with. Even though he was just a muggle, the four boys never made him feel inferior and would show him all kinds of cool tricks, including a peculiar map of their school that they had made.

When James and Lily asked the Evans' for their blessing, (M/N) was right beside them with his fingers crossed, though there was no need. Mr. and Mrs. Evans, like their son, had noticed that James made Lily happy, so of course they gave the young couple their blessing. (M/N) not only helped his sister pick her dress and the bridesmaids' dresses, but he also helped with planning the actual wedding, made the wedding cake, and was made a groomsman along with Remus and Peter (Sirius was the best man). It was the happiest (M/N) had ever seen Lily, and he knew that the two would love each other until the day they died.

After Harry had been born, (M/N) would visit as much as he could. His new nephew was just so adorable!! However, the young male couldn't come over as much as he'd like to, for it was very dangerous. There was a war going on in the wizarding world. Eventually, he couldn't visit at all. Lily explained the situation, and even though he wanted to be there and help, he knew that it was best to just stand aside. So he did. And he regretted that decision ever since.

It had been a strange day from the moment (M/N) got up to the second he laid down and even after that. It just so happened to be the male's day off, so he got up later than he usually did. He got up, made himself breakfast, then ate as he absentmindedly stared out the window, thinking of all the things he wanted to get done that day. However, he instantly perked up once he saw a large, tawny owl flutter past. When it didn't stop at his house, (M/N) sunk back in his chair. He hadn't heard from Lily or James in a while and was starting to worry. After he finished eating, (M/N) threw on some clothes and hopped into his car, heading towards the grocery store. It was on the corner of his street that he noticed something else peculiar - a cat reading a map. Immediately pulling over, the young male got out of his car and walked over to the tabby, but the map was gone. "Well, hello there, Kitty! You lost?" He asked as the cat stared back, looking rather stern. He looked up at the sign that read his street before returning his attention back to the cat, who seemed to be observing him. "Are you looking for (Street name)?" Slowly, almost hesitantly, the four-legged creature nodded. "Well, you've found it! What's the address you're looking for? Maybe I can help. You can tap the ground with your paw for the number." The cat did. It was (M/N)'s house number. "Oh, that's my place! I'm (M/N) Evans, nice to meet you, Kitty!" He held out his hand to the cat, who placed their paw in his palm. He gently shook hands with the strange tabby, careful not to hurt it. "I have to run some errands, do you want to come with me?" Again, almost hesitantly, the cat nodded. They both got into the male's car and drove to the grocery store, the human explaining how he was off work that day, as if it was completely normal to talk to a cat like it was a person.

While driving, (M/N) noticed people wearing cloaks out in public. "Ohh! Look, Kitty! I think the Wizarding world is celebrating something! I hope Lily, James, and Harry are having fun." He smiled as he talked, the cat just staring at him with an almost calculating gaze. And so, (M/N) and his new feline friend ran errands together, reacting very differently than the other Muggles whenever something magical happened. When a wave of owls flew overhead, (M/N) looked almost as if he was waiting for one to fly to him, but none of them did. It upset him a bit, but he tried to remain positive. Around noon, (M/N) turned to the cat and asked, "Are you hungry?" The tabby nodded, so the young male found a nearby cafe and the two entered. Some people gave them weird looks, but (M/N) just smiled cheerfully at them all. He walked up to the counter, greeted them, and ordered some food and drinks. He and the cat then sat down and enjoyed their lunch, (M/N) still talking to it like it was a person. After eating, the two continued running errands together. Finally, when they had finished everything and were walking back to the male's car, he accidentally bumped into one of those people in cloaks. "Sorry, are you ok?" (M/N) asked, worried for the tiny old man who almost fell. The older male in a cloak didn't seem upset though, instead, he smiled widely up at him and said in a very squeaky voice, "Don't be sorry, my dear sir, for nothing could upset me today! Rejoice, for You-Know-Who has gone at last! Even Muggles like yourself should be celebrating this happy, happy day!" The old man than hugged (M/N) around the middle, the younger male returning the favor. "Oh, that does sound like good news! I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!" (M/N) waved goodbye to the grinning cloaked stranger before walking away with the cat, now in an even better mood than before.

The feline and human got in (M/N)'s car and drove to the male's house. "Would you like to come in, Kitty?" He offered as he grabbed the bags from his trunk. The cat simply shook its head before moving to sit on his garden wall. "Alright, it was nice meeting you!" He walked inside his home and started putting everything away, then made himself dinner. He left some food and water outside for the tabby, just in case it was hungry or thirsty. After washing everything, he sat in front of the TV and turned on a movie until he started feeling tired. He turned the television off and went upstairs to get ready for bed. He opened his window to say goodnight to the cat, closed it so bugs wouldn't get in, and went to sleep, dreaming of visiting his sister and her family now that Voldemort was supposedly gone.

When (M/N) woke up, he was not expecting to see his adorable nephew on his doorstep, his small hand clutching a letter as he slept. He carefully picked up Harry and brought him inside, reading the letter as he swayed gently with the baby in his arms. That was how he found out what had happened to his beloved sister and brother-in-law. (M/N) slid to the ground, crying as quietly as he could to not disturb Harry's sleep while he held said toddler to his chest. "Lily... James... I'm so sorry... I promise, I'll protect Harry no matter the cost!!"
