Minx arose from her sleep

Minx arose from her sleep. She could feel a cool draft blowing in through a small window next to her bed. She yawned and noticed that her vision didn't seem to clear. She blinked a few times but everything was still dark. She stood up and stumbled over to the window, taking a quick peek outside and realising that it was still nighttime.

She yawned and collapsed back onto her bed. She laid there with her eyes closed for a few minutes but she just couldn't fall asleep. She decided that if she couldn't go to sleep then she would just have to stay up. She lit an oil lamp then walked over to a bookshelf that was on the other side of the room. She looked through them but couldn't find an interesting one so she decided to just grab a random one.

After a few minutes of reading and constantly telling herself that this is boring she should try and get some sleep, she decided to find Niki. She walked towards her bedside table and grabbed the oil lamp. She walked over to the door and opened it. The hallway was dark and looked as if it led into a deep, dark abyss. As she looked around she heard footsteps so she quickly closed the door and blew out the oil lamp. She heard the steps walk past so she knelt down and peeked under the door. It was a knight doing his routine of walking through the castle with a torch in one hand and a sword in the other.

After she could no longer hear him, she waited for about a minute in case he was still in sight. When she was sure he was gone, she opened the doors and lit the lamp once again. She took a peek into the halls then began walking to Niki's room. If she remembered correctly then her room should be the next room down the hall.

She stopped outside a large wooden door and paused. "Should I really be doing this? What if she needs her sleep?" Minx thought for a moment then shrugged, "Her father is king, he probably does most the duties around the city just like mine." She opened the doors then closed them behind her. She took the oil lamp and then went around lighting the candles and other lamps in her room.

Niki began to shuffle around in her bed as she slowly began to gain consciousness, "mmmm~ Who's there?" She mumbled. "Just me," Minx announced. Niki opened her eyes and looked up, "Minx? What are you doing here?" She croaked, yawing mid-sentence. "Well, I'm bored and I can't get to sleep so I was wondering if you wanted to stay up with me?" She pleaded, attempting to do some form of puppy dog eyes. Niki yawned then nodded, "Alright," she yawned, "I guess we can hang out for a little bit," said Niki.

Niki gasped as she noticed the sun rising from the horizon. "Oh gosh! I need to get ready! I have a meeting with some town folk first thing in the morning!" She panicked. Minx sat up and yawned, "ugh... what time is it?" She groaned. Niki pointed to the window, panic drawn on her face, "It's sunrise and I have to start getting ready for my day's duties!" She shouted.

Minx's head swiftly turned when she heard the door creak open. "M'lady, would you like m-," the maid and Minx made eye contact. "M'lady, why is Princess Minx in your room?"
"She couldn't sleep last night, can you just get my bath ready please?" Niki blurted. Minx rubbed the back of the neck, she felt bad for keeping Niki awake, then she got an idea. "Hey, Niki, to make up for last night, can I help you with some of your duties? I would feel bad if I didn't." Niki flicked her hand at Minx and shook her head, "No, it's fine really, I'm just a little tired. A bath will help me." Minx walked up to Niki and grabbed her hands, "Please let me help you, I feel really bad. Also, I would have nothing else to do!" Minx sobbed,
"Fine then," she pointed at the door and looked at the maid, "Can you get one of the other maids to set up a bath for Minx and help her get ready? That would be greatly appreciated," she asked before yawning once again.

Minx met Niki in the banquet hall, she was wearing a lacy pink dress and had her crown on. It was silver with a few diamonds perfectly placed on it and in the centre was a rose gold flower. A maid walked up to Minx and pointed to a spot in the side of the hall, "I know you want to help the Princess with her duties but some stuff you can't help her with. Like this. Just stand over there and... look pretty," she explained. Minx nodded and walked over to the spot.

Niki glanced at Minx and she returned a reassuring smile, causing Niki to blush. The main doors opened and in came three men. All of which wore country clothing. They all walked up to her and bowed.

"M'lady, it is an honour to be in your presence on this fine morning. My name is Alastair, I am the mayor of Fallway." He bowed once again. He had brown hair and black glasses. He was wearing a cloak, its hood was black whilst the rest of it was blue, purple and pink.

"I am very grateful that you have taken time out of your day to listen to us, I am incredibly grateful. My name is Grian, I am the mayor of Mooredge." He had light brown hair, a red long sleeve shirt and grey pants.

"I apologise for taking time out of your busy day but things must be discussed. I am eternally grateful m'lady. My name is Daniel, I am the mayor of Greenmont." He bowed. He had dark brown hair, light blue googles a black shirt and dark blue pants.

The three stood in front of her as she curtsied. "Yes, and what was it that you guys would like to discuss?" Niki asked. The three looked at each other. "Your highness, there have been sightings of a strange creature in our villages," spoke Dan. He had a worried look plastered on his face and his voice was filled with concern. The other two nodded in agreement. "Yes! It was tall and stood on two feet like a human!" Panicked Grian, "And it had thick brown fur covering it from head to toe! And it walked with a weird hunch!" Alastair cut in.

Niki had trouble focusing as her mind was all over the place due to having little sleep. She yawned slightly, hoping no one saw. "Hold on, has this creature done anything?" She asked, just wanting to go to sleep but she knew she couldn't leave her duties. The three looked at each other then back at Niki. "Well... it's a bit complicated," replied Alastair,
"How so?" Niki asked curiously. The three glanced at each other once again.

Alastair decided to speak up first. "Well, it spooked a lot of the farm animals but didn't actually harm any... just woke everyone up." He stammered. Minx watched and tried containing her laughter, Niki just looked slightly annoyed. "It went around our farms. It grabbed a few carrots... took a bite out of them then spat out what it ate and dropped the carrot," mumbled Grian. At this point a few giggles were escaping from Minx, grabbing the attention of some of the guards and the maids. "I guess it doesn't sound that bad but he threw water at a bunch of people. I'm pretty sure there were two of them when I last saw it." Dan added.

Minx could no longer contain herself. "Please excuse me," she mumbled as she rushed towards the two doors at the entrance. As soon as she got outside the banquet hall she immediately burst into fits of laughter, eventually crying at one point. She knew exactly what was happening.

Niki sighed. "When was the last sighting?" She asked. "A couple of nights ago! In Greenmont!" Added Dan.
"And how long do these sightings usually last?" She grumbled,
"Maybe two or three days, then it leaves to the next destination," Alastair speculated. Niki let out another yawn, "On its next sighting I'll send some knights to the area to apprehend it," she groaned.

The three men bowed and thanked her, turning around and leaving the castle.
