Outline:
An intro which gives a bit of background to Sam's character.
Years pass and show how Sam lives without a soulmate, and the chapter ends on their High School graduation.
Sam lives with their friends after High School, and is trying to save up enough money to buy a house.
They buy a house then decide to take time to figure out the direction of their life.
After deciding they want to be a parent, they go through the proper training/build up for fostering children until finally all they need to do is find which children they could potentially adopt.
I
Soulmates. A strange concept if you really think about it, a person you're destined to be with, someone the universe picks for you, thinking they know you enough to pick your partner.
Sam had always wanted a soulmate, from as early as they could remember. A person who will love you unconditionally, it doesn't matter if you feel alone, your soulmate will always be there for you. They never got that, however. The moment was still fresh in their mind as if it had happened yesterday.
It had been their thirteenth birthday party.
Sam was in the middle of unwrapping their gifts when it happened. They spotted someone standing behind their parents, a person, not quite human but not completely monstrous.
Pale white skin and violet eyes showed from beneath a dark purple, almost black hood. Long spider-like limbs were resting through the six neat holes in the back of the cloak, glinting ebony in the sun.
Standing next to him stood a boy, about fourteen, with wavy auburn hair, and brown eyes which showed like honey in the ever bright sunlight.
"no," Sam muttered in disbelief.
"No!" They said again, half-yelling as they frantically pulled their sleeve back, knocking their chair to the floor as they revealed the answer to their question.
Written on Sam's wrist there was the name "Eric" written in bronze, but now crossed out in blood red. And in the Same ink, underneath the name in neat letters was written
"DECEASED
UNPAIRED"
in all caps.
"No, no, no, no, no no no no no," they continued, this time repeating it in a low, frantic, voice, falling to the ground and crouching under the table.
