As his head fell low, his eyes stared at the polished shoes in front of him.
"They're here, your majesty." the guard said with a low voice.
Suddenly, the courtroom was silent. Everyone in the room had their eyes widening and their breaths stuck in their throats. They glanced nervously at one another before facing the king.
He went by the name of Kim Taehyung. He was the ruler of seven kingdoms on the continent. He is rumored to have killed the rulers of the other kingdom only with the blink of an eye without having shed a single droplet of blood. It is said that he ruled by shadow. However, he also ruled by light. He is referred to as the sun's child and the moon's child.
There had never been a witness to his face among the kingdom's people. It had been rumored that anyone who had seen it would not live again. Nevertheless, it is said that he is endowed with a face only the gods can create. All his subjects fear him, yet they also adore him. It's because of his reputation and his demeanor that they are afraid of him. However, there are more than a hundred reasons to respect him. He was a natural ruler. It was apparent that he cared deeply about his people. It is his goal to ensure that they never face any problems until they are alive and living in his kingdom.
The way he treated his friends was as if they were his family. Meanwhile, his enemies failed to see how the sun rose each morning. There would be more than a decade of rumors about him that the people had spread. Despite his faults, he is still a good ruler. Consequently, his people will never ask him for anything else.
He was seated on the throne of the courtroom, which was draped in a thick blanket of silence, nervousness, and fear. The corners of his mouth quirked upwards. These people tend to get scared easily. Slowly, a smirk appeared on his lips. His chuckles were followed by laughter. His ministers looked at him like he was crazy. Several people had their mouths hung open, while others gulped in anticipation of what was to come.
There would have been normal discussions like the previous day, where they would have talked about the upcoming season and the problems they will be facing or some trading offer that they received from their neighboring countries.
Unfortunately, no.
There was something unusual about the day because a newly crowned king had decided to agitate the peace by daring the king in a sword duel. People looked upon it as an act of stupidity. Only an idiot would provoke Kim Taehyung. This ignorant king, however, has to face the consequences of his foolishness, as he believes he can defeat him.
"Your majesty--" One of the ministers attempted to state his concerns only to have them erased by the glare he had received. As he gulped down the remaining words, his hands began to shake violently, as he stared down at the floor. Those eyes, which mirror only the two black holes of darkness, are so bloodcurdling. The poor man almost sees himself reflected there. Fear nearly choked him.
