Soldiers Thoughts
My mother told me when I was a lad
if I weren’t good I’d go somewhere bad
Now I sit here with the men’s dying screams
and wonder if this is where she means
Each day becomes harder as we sit with the lice
Men choke and shudder but scream in the night
I sit here freezing and unwell
I can’t help but think this is my personal Hell
Patiently waiting trying to disguise our fright
hoping to God he’ll show mercy tonight
Rats eat the flesh of less fortunate souls
Despair fills the air with the horrors untold
So as you sit in front of your TV
take a moment to think of me
A forgotten face lost in time
you have a future I lost mine
