Soldier Boys is a realistic fiction about two boys during World War 2. Deiter is a German boy, fiercely devoted to his country. He started serving as a Nazi almost as soon as he was allowed to, eager to win the war. Spencer is the other boy. He's an American boy, who wants to protect his country and earn the honor he's always wanted.
The story follows the two of them as they fight in the war as soldiers on opposite sides, and realize the war isn't all fame and glory.
Will they survive and get the recognition they've always wanted? Or will they die for their country in a fight that will have no true heroes?
I really liked this story for the perspective it gives you about the war. Most people see the war as something beyond them, and this story really shows what it was like and how truly terrible it was. It's a powerful story, short enough to keep your attention, and leave you questioning a lot of your own values.
