Life was total and absolute shit, I thought as I frantically searched for my jacket.

I was meant to go for a small meeting at José, my best friend's house but here I was, pacing around my house like a fucking maniac.

Once I had retrieved it, I brushed my dark hair back one last time before hastily descending and unlocking my black Lamborghini.

I sped off to their place, and at the same time I dialed José's number to let him know that I hadn't made a last minute decision to shirk him.

"Enzo. You're fucking late," his voice sounded through my car since my phone was connected to the speakers.

"I'm two minutes away. I got caught up with something." I averted my gaze to the road once the traffic light had changed to green.

"Sure. Just thought I'd let you know that if your coffee gets cold, that will not be my problem," he joked and I couldn't help but chuckle at this.

"I know. See you soon." I cut the call and turned into the broad driveway.

José Marcelo and I went way back. We had first met in high school as immature, puerile teenagers and proceeded to go to the same university. We were joined to the hip and were hardly inseparable.

We both had gone through our fair share of girls during our juvenile times and gotten wasted countless times on multiple occasions, until there came a time for the both of us to grow up and evolve.

José ended up marrying his high school sweetheart Isabella and gave birth to a beautiful young girl they named after José's grandmother, Sophia.

I, on the other hand, failed to find my happily ever after. Most women I went through were either not ready for commitment or were already involved with someone else. I ended up assuming that real love, in fact, didn't actually exist.

Okay, maybe I lied somewhere along the line. Let me rephrase: love will certainly exist with the one person that I desire to have.

I got out of my car before walking towards the vast building. I kept a straight, firm face as all the female workers lustfully ogled me. I was at a point in my life where I wasn't fascinated by sex and women that much anymore.

I only wanted one woman.

I opened the door to José's conference room, causing all the heads to turn in my direction. I nevertheless strode over to my usual seat and settled down as though I hadn't just interrupted their discussion.

"Mr. Vincento, it's such a pleasure to see you here," one of the men I recognized as Oliver smirked at me.

Oliver was quite a rival in terms of business. Every time my industry flourished and my market share increased, he'd start coming up with new developments and products, eager and hungry to be more successful than me.
