The roosters crowing wakes me up before I even realize it. I let out a groan and rub my eyes as I sit up and let my legs swing over the edge of my bed. My bare feet hit the wooden floor and with shaky legs I stand up.
The sun is barely up leaving enough dim light for me to carefully light a candle. The flickering warm light fills my room, it takes a few moments for my eyes to adjust. I quietly get dressed trying not to wake my mom sleeping in the other room. I carefully slip out of my room , grabbing my bag . I sigh as I pull on my boots and stretch a little more.
I step out onto the street and into the morning. I close the door behind me and walk down the street. Only a few stores are open at this hour. The crisp warm early spring air fills my lungs as the birds chirp in the air. As I walk up the hill I stop and stare at the sunrise. It perfectly shines down on my village, the east solis ortum mountain village.

The bell rings when I enter the bakery "Good morning " I say to the baker the smell of freshly baked goods fills my nose.
"Moring, Mae" The baker greets back
"Whats fresh?"
" johnny cake , breakfast cake , muffins "
" I'll take a slice of that johnny cake" I answer leaning against the counter." Is Willow playing today?" Willow is his daughter and she's the best player. I need her on my team today.
"I'm sure she will" He answers cutting a slice of fresh, warm johnny cake. Wrapping it up and sliding it across the counter. " It'll be 10 axe " The price keeps rising , last month it was only 5 axe.
"Wow , really?" I say commenting on the price .
" I know, the king keeps raising the tax on corn meal "
" Is there a drought or a bad crop this year?"
"I don't know" he answers " I wish I could"
" Well the price will have to drop soon" I try at optimism , I hope it goes down. "Have a good one" I say as walk out the door
"You too!" The baker calls out as the door closes.

By the time I get home my mom is up eating her plain oats and going over her patients note, making notes on the calendar for the patients . My mom is a midwife, one of the only ones in the village too. She'll come home from long days with a bloody apron, cracked hands from constant washing and sore aching feet.
"Moring!" I greet as I enter the house. Knocking the dirt from my boots.
"Good morning " Mom says back from the kitchen. I walk into the kitchen to find her counting the weeks on her calendar.
"Ma" I say trying to get her attention , I got new pants a few days ago and I haven't worn them yet.
She glances up and lets out a groan at the sight of me wearing pants. The matrons and mothers in the village have this thing against us younger girls wearing pants. they haven't tried to stop us but they do voice their disapproval of our pants wearing. The reason we wear pants is it makes playing soccer a whole lot easier and they're just better for everyday life. Much easier to do things in than a skirt.
"You know how I feel about pants" She says going back to her patient book
"Yeah but aren't these ones cool?" I ask doing a spin.
