~Three years later~

"Blaziken! Use Blaze Kick!"

"Dodge it, Metagross!"

Heat swells through the room, hot against your skin, as Blaziken swings her leg into Metagross' side, fire exploding from her talons.

Metagross slides back from the impact, scraping against the marble floors, then looks to Steven for guidance.

"I'd say we've been going easy enough on them!" Steven pulls out his Keystone, previously pinned to his jacket, and raises it into the air. "Let our hearts become one! We'll forge a bond as strong as steel! Metagross, Mega Evolve!"

"Two can play that game!" You grab the Keystone pendant hanging around your neck. "Let our hearts become one! Together, we'll burn our way to victory! Blaziken, Mega Evolve!"

The room comes to life with chromatic light, swirling around you and your Pokémon. They change, growing bigger and stronger, and you feel a pounding in your head and a tug at your chest as Blaziken lets out a shrill roar.

Steven's shoulders rise and fall with his heavy breaths, exchanging glances of pure trust with Metagross.

"Now, go!" the two of you yell.

Mega-Blaziken and Mega-Metagross clash in a burst of steel and fire. Talons scrape against metal, claws dig into feathers.

Metagross throws Blaziken across the room, then suspends her in the air with psychic energy.

You feel a little lighter as well. "Blaziken, break out of it!"

Blaziken twitches, trying to squirm free, before Metagross raises her higher and throws her down with full force.

The floor cracks from the impact, and the thud of Blaziken's landing makes your heart stop.

As the dust clears, Blaziken struggles to stand, before reverting to her normal form in a flash and collapsing.

"Blaziken!" You're at her side in an instant, helping her sit up. "You were amazing out there."

Metagross also returns to normal, and Steven returns it to its Pokéball.

He comes up to you and offers a hand to help you up. "Couldn't beat me this time, huh?"

You take his hand, then crouch down to help Blaziken stand, as she's started to regain consciousness. "You know you want me to win." You stick out your tongue.

"Of course I want you to win. But I'm not just going to let you."

You smile and let out a sigh, lightly touching the ring on your finger. Steven had proposed about a year ago, but he pulled a Victor Nikiforov and said he'd only actually marry you if you beat him in battle.

Blaziken rubs her eyes, then leans away from you, able to stand on her own.

"We didn't win this time," you tell her, mildly salty.

"Krr!" She scoffs out a puff of smoke and stomps her feet.

You and Steven smile at her childish behavior. She really hasn't changed a bit.

Ignoring her, you point at Steven. "But, we're totally gonna win next time!"

Steven gently moves your hand aside and steps forward, pulling you into an embrace. "You fought very well this time, though. You and Blaziken were so in sync, especially when she Mega Evolved."
