8 years have passed since the love-struck days of enamored sex, the days of a lust-fueled honeymoon. Yuuto and Blooky were a married couple by then, a peaceful middle-class family living in the suburbs of Davao.

"BBM wants a second term? This is absolute bullshit!" Blooky screamed out as they watched the television, arms crossed down on the table as they eyed the news channel.

"This is unconstitutional!" Blooky raged once more, their fist slamming on the table.

"Blooky, relax! You're going to wake the kids up!" Yuuto held both of his arms as he struggled. Blooky was obviously angry, as the son of a dictator wanted to hold onto his seat of power.

Ever since those 8 years, Blooky and Yuuto had raised three children, with Blooky having a stable job as a lawyer, and Yuuto running a local business corporation.

However, the Philippines wasn't safe from the clutches of time, and ever since then, a certain President Bongbong Marcos has held onto the seat of power with an iron first, destroying any and all opposition with his best tool, the military. Ever since then, Blooky was placed in a list of terrorists, simply for speaking out against the government in countless labour protests.

Yuuto, being the non-political one of the two, having abandoned his youthful ideologues to simply care for his family, was afraid for the life of his husband. He didn't want his kids to be raised by a single father.

"Blooky, I don't want you hurt anymore. Please stop going to these rallies. Think of the kids, please!" Yuuto held Blooky's arm as he began to calm down, Blooky's buggy eyes flickering as he held the remote control, as they raised their eyes towards Yuuto.

"I'm sorry, Yuuto." Blooky stood up, as Yuuto let go of his embrace over Blooky's neck.

"I'm going to the mountains. There's no point fighting a lost war of rallies and protests." He bluntly held Yuuto's shoulder as he looked into his eyes. Yuuto felt contempt in his soul. He was serious.

"But why? You're just giving your life away for nothing!" Yuuto shook Blooky, as he began to cry, thinking about the loneliness of his kids.

"If nobody is going to stand up, who will?" Blooky uttered, as their eyes looked down into the floor, blurry with tears of rage.

"If nobody is going to act now, then when?"

"I GET IT, I GET IT!" Yuuto inched closer towards Blooky as he raised his head towards Blooky, his hands forming into fists as he stood on his toes to match his eyes.

"I just don't want you hurt. I don't want you to continue your political whims like this anymore." Yuuto muttered, as he slowly lowered his feet back down.

"Don't you know how many rebels die in those mountains fighting the state? I don't want you to be one of them. The kids won't grow up with a funny father like you." He continued once again, as he dug his face into Blooky's chest.

"I understand, but I don't want you to be so selfish." Blooky held Yuuto's head, as he slowly smiled, closing his eyes as he reminisced of the days of their youthful love.

"There are a thousand more families who suffer, a thousand more who can't fend for themselves. We are just one of the lucky few who happen to survive." He said, as he rested his chin on Yuuto's head.

"I don't want to die either, but when I do, there are a thousand more comrades and friends the kids can know."

"SO WHAT? I don't want them, I don't want the kids to not remember you, I want them to grow up with you!" Yuuto said, as he punched Blooky in the chest as he said this.

"I don't want our country to become a place where our kids will continue to feel the suffering we have today, Yuuto. But I promise that I'll come back alive." Blooky replied, as he rocked back and forth, sitting down now on the edge of the sofa.

"Remember when we went to the gun range a lot during Thanksgiving?" Blooky said, closing his eyes as he dove into the sofa, smiling.

"The days, huh? It's been 8 years since." They said, before readjusting themselves, now standing back up again.

He now picked up the M16 on the side of the door.

"It's 3AM. I'll see you soon." He waved, a small tear flowing down his cheek.

"I'll see you soon." Yuuto replied, trying to hold back the tears.

Yuuto sat back on the sofa, as he sobbed on the table, his hands covering his face.

Today, at this hour, Proclamation number 8033 has been ratified. The Philippines will be put under a state of martial law.

The President spoke out on the TV, with the volume raised.

A somber air filled the living room that night. A rousing speech covered by the tears of a crying father.
