When August 12th came around a couple of days after we had danced in the rain together, I was tidying up my apartment in an attempt to make the time pass faster. I hadn't seen her since but we made it a habit to talk on the phone every night. She had told me every day that she was really looking forward to finally see a shooting star. I couldn't wait for our date to start and I was positive my girlfriend would appreciate what I had planned for tonight. Even if her excitement about being able to cross something off her list was minimal compared to the last time, I was still sure this would be one of the greatest nights of my life.

So when it was finally time to pick her up from her place, I packed up everything I needed for tonight and put it in the trunk of my car. I had let her in on my plan to take her to a lake about an hour away from D.C. so we could see the night-sky without any of the city's light pollution. When I knocked on her door I could barely contain my excitement anymore.

She opened with a wide grin and enthusiastically threw her arms around my neck to pull me into a hug. Apparently I wasn't the only one who was looking forward to tonight. I put my arms around her body to reciprocate the embrace right before leaning down to kiss her forehead. She loosened her grip around my neck to stand on her tiptoes and press her lips on mine. I could feel her smile into our kiss and I did just the same.

"Hi," I finally whispered against her lips.

"Hey," she giggled and let go of me to grab her purse.

I was finally able to fully look at her and take in all of her beauty. She was wearing an oversized shirt that exposed one of her shoulders and reached down mid-thigh. The rest of her legs were covered by black leggings. I noticed that she wasn't wearing any make-up today either. She looked casual and comfy, which I appreciated. Of course I also liked when she was dolled up, but the way she now granted me to see her natural beauty left a tingling sensation in my chest.

"You look stunning," I let her know.

She gave me a confused look. I think she contemplated whether or not I was making fun of her, which of course I never would. When she found nothing but sincerity in my expression she slightly blushed.

"Thank you. I was just thinking if we are going to lie in the grass to watch the stars all night, I might as well wear something comfortable," she stated.

The sun had already started to set when we made our way to my car and drove off. It should have been a clear night but I noticed a few clouds hanging in the sky. I hoped they would disappear once we reached our destination, so we could have a clear view of the meteor shower.

As always our conversation flowed naturally, talking about just anything that came to mind. After about 30 minutes of driving she suddenly stopped engaging in our conversation and turned up the volume of the radio instead. I didn't expect her to even pay attention to the music playing and briefly looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm sorry, but this is the greatest song ever made, I just gotta enjoy it for a second," she explained.

Even though I was no expert on pop culture I did recognize the song.

"What, now you think Spice Girls' Wannabe is the greatest song ever made? I can recall that you said the exact same thing about Total Eclipse of the Heart 4 weeks ago."

"Yes, but you kind of ruined that one for me when you told me about that guy playing that song while attacking women. So Wannabe it is," she countered.
