That day was just like any other: Astra woke up, made breakfast for her adoptive family went to school. Everything was normal, that is until lunchtime. Just as she was headed towards the cafeteria she heard the principal through the speakers, that were installed everywhere around the school, say that there was to be a live broadcast from the empress in five minutes and all needed to listen. Once she got back to her classroom she regained her seat in the back of the class and waited for everyone to be seated so that her teacher, Miss Jing a short black-haired woman in her late forties, can turn on the projector so she could listen to the unexpected announcement. She could tell her teacher was probably as impatient as she felt since she had already turned on the screen. The image that was broadcasted all over the country was of Her royal highness Empress Ilyanna Novastella The third, altho she was probably more than a hundred years old she looked undeniably regale and elegant, in other words, her whole demeanour just screamed power. She had dark midnight blue eyes( that reminded Astra of her own) that seemed to twinkle with thousands of galaxies but there was nothing playful about the look in the rulers' eyes, they were cold and ruthless. Just as her mind was about to drift she got called back to reality by the queen's voice which was just as beautiful as her eyes but twice as cold.
"Dear citizens of the Empire of Novastella,
Today is a day of rejoicing, of endings but for new beginnings as well. I am honoured to announce that a new season of the Moon trials will begin in two weeks although it may be sad for me to leave my place as the empress, I know it is the right choice, I have begun to grow old and this nation needs once more a young mind at its head. In two days I shall announce which ones of my family members have been selected for the moon trials as well as a reminder of the rules until then as custom dictates every subject whose job is non-essential will have a holiday until the next ruler is crowned, that goes for all children who go to school as well."
With those words said the transmission was cut and the entire country left in a state of excitement.
