Summary:
Everyone in their second year at UA thought they were all simple betas and alphas. A heated day on the battlefield proves that wrong and changes everything for Bakugou and Kirishima.
Chapter Text
"Shitty hair! Get the fuck over here and spar with me!" Bakugou demanded. The red-head turned and smiled brightly.
"Sure thing bro!" He yelled excitedly as he jogged over. Thinking about it, he could identify every person's second gender who crossed his path. Even with the strict quarantines for ruts, the scent patches, pheromone blockers... Bakugou could still pick up on it with ease. Except this read-headed, dumbass fucker's. He must be some kind of pure beta with zero pheromones or something.
But whatever, why did he care anyways. Bakugou never really cared about second genders anyways as long as he could be a hero. Even if he had been born an omega he would have found a way to be the first omega pro hero, but thankfully he didn't have to worry about that. Omegas weren't necessary banned from UA, but at the first sign of trouble will get you kicked out immediately. Therefore, after their first year they had a class of all betas and alphas.
Because of this, life on campus with a bunch of other beta and alpha teenagers had been mostly uneventful. Sometimes someone might have to leave class early and be out a few days, but that was normal and caused no serious consequences.
Just as the pair were making their way to the gym floor the emergency siren rang out. "All second years report for duty!" The intercom rang out. Immediately the pair was running toward the lockers to get dressed. A hero was waiting outside to give them the details.
"Bro don't look so excited," Kirishima winked. Who was he fooling though, he had been grinning since the announcement too.
"Shut it, Shitty hair." Bakugou waited for a response but was only met with a boy staring the locator in his hand absently.
"Ready for some chaos? " Bakugou asserted as smug as always, snapping Kirishima back to the present.
"Always."
There were not just handful of villains. They were thirty plus alphas. Even so, as long as the omegas were safely distanced and taking the appropriate precautions, this should be business as usual.
The three in front stepped up and commanded: BACK OFF!
"Fuck if you think that has any power over us!" Bakugou lunged forward, eager as ever. Kirishima stayed close and did his best to act as a shield when needed. One by one the duo started disarming and detaining the villains. Bakugou noticed they were getting farther into the swarm, separating them from the other heroes. But since when did Bakugou Katsuki need backup?
"Ground Zero! Get back here!" Best Jeanist called out. Bakugou's blood was boiling, he didn't want to stop. He was winning, why would they make him stop? That's when Kirishima smelled it. The sweet scent of Carmel was wafting through the battle field as Bakugou rode his high. "Bakugou Katsuki!!" Shit. Maybe he should listen, he was sounding pretty pissed-
Fight.
Bakugou's alpha spoke to him for the first time.
Win.
His vision was blurring at the new sensation. He was losing control to this inner beast. And he liked it. His grin turned feral and he raged toward a group of three. Now even Kirishima was falling behind.
"Bakugou!" Kirishima called out and broke the blond's focus. Something was wrong.
The growing scent of burnt spice and rotting earth was causing Bakugou to panic. Something was wrong! He was pushing people aside and sprinting as fast as he could, eyes burning. Wait. He could...smell Kirishima? There's no way. He has no scent. So why did this smell feel so urgent. He could feel the pain, fear, the warmth that seemed to be overtaking the red-head's whole body.
"God something...somethings wrong-it's too hot..." Kirishima was panting and shining with sweat. This made no sense. Bakugou felt his heart constrict. Feeling helpless and confused his rage exploded.
Protect. Defend. Protect.
"WHO DID THIS?!" He snarled. Bakugou's Alpha was furious and unbearable.
As soon as Kirishima started groaning, the alphas seemed to wince in response and that included Bakugou. He felt his chest constricting with every slight sound. What the hell was happening? Bakugous's senses were overloaded, his alpha fighting for control. The anger... the pain... he had to do something. Kirishima was hurt, hurting still...
"Kneel!" Bakugou and his alpha roared toward the villainous crowd.
Bakugou and his alpha felt it was the right thing to do. What he didn't expect was to everyone, EVERY...SINGLE...PERSON... to drop like lead. The sound was unnerving. The silence that followed shocked all present. Bakugou slowly looked around. That was...me? What exactly had he just done. What broke his stupor was the labored breathing behind him. Kirishima was doubled over, shaking, forehead to the ground.
"Kirishima..." Bakugou couldn't help but call out, but the sound only made Kirishima seem to hurt more. "How..." Bakugou started suppressing the seemingly overpowering Alpha within. "What should I do?" Bakugou almost whispered, releasing a calming, sweet, caramel scent. Kirishima started to breath slower finally.
"Fuck. How do I help??"
"Ba-..." Kirishima panted. "Bakugou... I can't... " suddenly his body went limp.
"FUUCCKK WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?" What little composure he had managed was now vanishing. He couldn't hear his name being called. All he could hear was his alpha.
PROTECT!
All he could see were enemies whether they actually allies or not. No one could come closer. No one could make this terrifying thing even worse. He was growling and circling the unconscious Kirishima. He could feel his own pheromones leaking all over the place, his scent starting to sour and engulf the surrounding area. It was the type of smell that burned your nose, made you cringe.
Mina stepped forward trying to help, but Bakugou was too far gone. He lunged at her without hesitation. That's when he felt the prick in his side. It felt like slow motion when he turned to see the dart in his side.
Protect! Protect!! PROTECT!!!
Bakugou's alpha was screaming so loud he could barely hear the people right in front of him. The world was swaying and his eyes were tunneling. He dropped to his knees.
"Is he going into rut??" His classmate asked.
"I don't..." Bakugou mumbled. "I've never... rut..." he was barely audible.
"There's no way!! Right? That's not possible??" The bright voice was starting to fade away. Then he lost focus, finally succumbing to the drug and fully collapsed. The world was dark and his limbs were heavy. He could feel his heart still pounding even though now he was laying down. Why is this happening...??
