I tapped the link, and my heart sank like an anchor. The radicals have taken yet another city. Even worse, the city just so happened to be next to the one I live, and it even shows on the map that it's close to my apartment. Tears ran down my face as I read every word and observed every photo, and it wouldn't stop. She lived there, and now it's taken over by radicals. She lost her mother while escaping the city, and it was heartbreaking that it was now beginning to harm those around me and who I love.
It just crushed everything. Nothing left to stand. The sound of weaponry firing and exchanging blows, the police was crushed in an instant. I was scared, so scared I didn't want to move. Radicals are beginning to grow in numbers sometimes the military just isn't enough. I could do nothing but cry, weep for those who lost their lives, and everything seemed like it was all falling apart until I heard a voice through my door.
"Blake! It's Jessie!"
Jessica.
She had made it out alive.
The tears stopped and I opened my door, her eyes like jewels, glistening in the moonlight, her hair flowing with the wind majestically, I hug her in tears. She repeats this.
"I was so scared I thought I lost you..."
"We made it out, but my brother's injured and we need a place to stay."
I let her in with her family into my home, and get a doctor, who tends to their wounds. I help set up pillows and blankets for them and prepare a quick meal. They looked like they saw a monster. Their eyes in shock, the fear striking their hearts fast like a lightning bolt, it was horrendous, whatever they saw. I'm still in tears from hearing the news, and it had struck me hard, right through my heart.
We prepared to sleep, but the younger ones seemed like they wouldn't be able to, so we let them turn the TV on, and as they watched, more tears fell. Their father thanked me and was praying on the floor, just for it all to end with the radicals, even though it didn't seem like much would change.
Jessie used to be a very cheery person who would brighten anyones day, regardless of anything. She was a teacher at a local middle school in town, and she was at a local coffee shop when we first met. We started going out after a week, even though some people were unaware that she was lesbian. It didn't matter to me though, since I'm pan. Normally she would be cheering up everyone in the room, but after what happened, she wasn't the same person. Now, she was devastated, and she just lost someone close to her. Even now, I'm scared the radicals are going to attack LA. Because that is where I live. I can already see families moving out of the area in fear of the radicals taking over the city.
My neighbor who lived next to me, as well as multiple others who lived in this apartment building had left out of
fear, and I can already see people loading their vehicles and driving away from the area. I just hope that we'll be safe and the government steps in to stop this.
I go to sleep, huddled with Jessie, as we rest, hoping for the best. Next thing I heard a few hours later, was the sound of a helicopter dashing through the sky.Afterword:
This is a short chapter, which I do apologize for. This is the actual length of the chapter when I originally published it. I don't remember the length of the other chapters, but I hope you enjoyed anyway. I plan to upload and write when I can and get ideas.
