Please read with self-control. I do not hold responsibility for others choices and actions. The sound of helicopters roaring in the air awakes me. Jessie is somewhat still asleep. She did have a hard day yesterday so it was understandable for her to continue sleeping. I move the curtain aside to look out my window, to which, in my surprise, police and military forces have positioned themselves at the border. Barbed wire and armored vehicles being set up and positioned. Upon this, I see a small group of people in armor and camouflage rush in from the border of town. Things were looking a lot more gloomy now, as I watch as I see people wielding rifles and pistols, dark or shiny or with multiple colors, walking around town. I hear my door knock and I opened it, revealing a man carrying a rifle. I was nearly startled,
But it just felt good somehow just knowing it was a soldier from the National Guard.
"Ma'am, you need to leave."
I was shocked. But after a few seconds passed I knew it was for evacuation.
"Anyone else living here with you?" He asks.
"It's usually my cat and I, but my girlfriend and most of her family is here with me."
"You all need to evacuate now. Those radicals are going to try to take this city any moment now, and there might be some civilian casualties here and we want to ensure safety of the people living here. Pack everything and leave, now."
I nod yes and wake everyone up. I explain that we needed To leave my house. In fact, I would've gone to Korea with the rest of my family to my cousin's place, but I didn't because I was beginning to date Jessie, in which I chose to stay. I wanted to stay so I can be with Jessie still, even though the radicals were beginning to take control of local cities, hurting hundreds, maybe thousands of people and maybe even brainwashing some, from what I've heard from a rumor that went around half a month ago.
We pack up everything, and my car was small, but the military were kind enough to escort us and take a part of the entire group. It did feel a lot safer knowing that there would be some protection in case. Jessie and I get in my car, but the rest of the family didn't feel safe, so they went with the military van. One of the brothers was amazed, even with the interior, feeling the materials that made up the van, and was even mentioning facts about it. I understood some of it, but was getting bored from all the chatter of it. I go into my car(which was stuffed with all of my things anyway, so hence why we also had to go into two groups), and fare my landlord a heartwarming farewell, and wished the best for each other. We hit the road, and on we went to the airport.
I follow my GPS and the van to the airport, in hopes of going to another country to at least make it out of this mess in the country. Nothing was feeling safe anymore. I drive hoping that we will make it out alive. Neither Jessie or I turn on the radio to find out what was happening from the news.
"We'll finally be safe, won't we?"
"We will Jessie, we will."
I say it, but I'm not so sure myself that we'll be safe. Just last week on the news while President Zufford was giving his address to the radical situation someone tried to kill him. Somehow a group of radicals got to D.C. undetected. Anyone who was in a radical-controlled area would be considered a prisoner of the radicals, and anyone who had joined and found out would be considered a terrorist.
Luckily, Zufford had not been harmed, but the assassins were never found. All we know was that there was a small amount of people who could identify the radicals who did it. In the end, only a small amount of people were injured, and some died during the attempt on the president's life.
We nearly make it to the airport as soon as someone tries to shoot us. One of my windows breaks and Jessie and I duck down. Someone was trying to kill us.
The military van drives in front of us, and the driver shouts to us, telling me to drive to their left side. I do so and now the van is the one being shot at. A loud boom echoed the flat area without an explosion to be seen. A man in a car wearing a stolen SWAT helmet was coming from behind, wielding a stolen military-grade Barret. I hear the sound of an automatic rifle firing repeatedly at the vehicle, striking down the radical and causing them to fall to the ground and the car spins out of control, eventually flipping over to the side.
"Everyone alright?!" The soldier that had fired at the radicals yelled.
"Yes!" I yell.
"I think I got hit..." Jessie says scared. I can see the fear in her eyes.
We stop and a medic checks us both. Nothing grazed us from the inspection. We make it to the airport safely, but as we walked in, more Soldiers were there. Some weren't even American. I saw some Canadian or British or Australian or Japanese even, with medics treating the wounded, and with most of the civilians I saw there, I saw fear in their eyes. I knew this because that was what we were feeling too. I get my stuff and have it put on for our plane, but then a gunshot was fired, and people were panicking. Soldiers began taking defensive positions with some moving out to check the area. I hear orders being called and soldiers responding and running to the entrance. I couldn't see for a moment, but then, for a slight glimpse, I saw it. They had come.
