The One And Only

An unexpected change (Chapter 1)

It was a dark and gloomy night. As the stars in the night sky shimmered, Theo, had just arrived at the front door of his house. When he stepped into his house, his mother which was watching television in the living noticed that he hung his head low with dreadful tears in his eyes as he slowly walked towards the bathroom.
Theo is like any other guy you know. He was about 6 foot tall, has a beard and dresses ordinarily. Today, the person he had trusted the most, his girlfriend, had dumped him for another guy she met. When he arrived home, he walked pass his mother as if she was invisible. His mother stared at him with a concerned look on her face as he walked pass her. She wondered what had happened.
When Theo was done showering, he hung his head low and slowly approached his mother. His mother asked in a soft and calming tone "What's wrong Theo?" Just when his mother was about to say another word, Theo broke down in tears and cried. His mother quickly comforted him and placed his head onto her shoulders as tears slowly rolled down his face. After a few minutes, Theo calmed down and had stopped crying. His mother asked him what was wrong and told him that he could always tell her if anything is wrong. Theo didn't want to talk about it at first, but soon enough, he mustered up the courage to tell her his troubles. He told her that his girlfriend had dumped him for another guy. Hearing this, his mother patted him on the back and told him it was okay and normal to experience break ups in life. His mother had also experienced a break up before, so she could feel what Theo was feeling. Theo understood and felt better. He quickly hugged his mother and told her that he was going to sleep. He went towards his room while smiling. When he entered his room, he lay down on his bed and stared blankly at his ceiling, trying to forget about his girlfriend. He tried and tried and tried but nothing was working. Her memories were like drugs, they kept coming. He decided to turn on some music, completely forgetting that he wanted to sleep. As the music played in his room, he remembered all the good times he had with his ex girlfriend. He cried and was in despair.
The next morning, Theo woke up with heavy eyes as he slowly got up and walked out of his room. The morning sun engulfed the house in bright rays of light as Theo went to the bathroom to wash up. He brushed his teeth and took his morning shower. He got dressed in a nice suit. There is a big day ahead of him. He was going to have a interview to enter his dream job. He got ready and just when he was about to leave the house, his mother wished him good luck for the interview. He went out and entered his junky old car. While driving, he just thought about his ex girlfriend and all the memories they had. Even though he was sad, it was the past. He cant change history.
After 10 minutes, he arrived at the place the interview was held at. He was interviewing to become a scientist. Growing up, Theo has always had a keen interest in science. He would explore the diversity around him and question many things.
Theo entered the building and sat down, waiting for his turn to be called. While waiting, Theo's heart started racing. He felt like his knees were trembling and got cold sweat.
"Theo, please come in, it is your turn for the interview." The person announced. Theo stood up from his seat and took a deep breath before entering the room.
"Hi, my name is Theo. Growing up, I have always had a strong interest in science. Here is my CV." Theo said while his heart pounded heavily. When the interviewer saw his CV, his eyes widened up. As he looked through Theo's CV, he was impressed with Theo's score on both science and math. He had scored above 90 for all the years he was schooling. The interviewer handed him back the CV and told Theo that he will call him to tell him whether he is hired or not. Theo left after that and went back home. While driving home, his ex girlfriend was all he could think of. After every school application he had submitted, his ex girlfriend would stand by him and would make him feel happy. Her smile and laugh means the word to Theo. Her smile was nothing like other girls. It would brighten up his day. She was his everything. Her laugh would always catch his attention.
When he arrived home, his mother asked him how the interview went. Theo said it went well and he went to bathe.
A few days had gone by. Theo would still think about his ex girlfriend and would hope to god that fate would bring them together again. Everything felt better with her. Everyday things like buying groceries would be fun with her. She felt so right but she left. Theo would think of her on and on. But nothing is going to happen. She is not coming back. I should've bought her flowers to surprise her more. I should've gave her all my hours instead of playing video games. I should've treated her better. While Theo was thinking about her, he suddenly remembered about his job interview and was also stressing about the job interview. He was worried that he would not have been able to get the job. When he was about to eat lunch, his phone started ringing. He wondered who it was and picked the phone up. It was the person who had interviewed him for the job. Theo started sweating as he had an anxiety attack at that very moment. "Hello Theo, we are calling to inform you that......
