                                    POV Mia

The light pitter patter of rain began to tap against my air conditioner. I was curled up under my grey fuzzy blanket that smelled like fresh laundry. The droplets became louder as the summer rain fell picking up. Each one sounded like a tiny tap shoe, while the hum of the ac created a white noise that reminded me of ocean waves. A white flash bounced across the violet sky lighting up my darkened room.

When I was younger I would count the seconds between the lightning and thunder. Almost 5 seconds later the booming thunder echoed over me, while the rain was now a heavy pour. I quickly got up and went into my suitcase, which had been laying by the end of my bed for two weeks.

I took the soft material in my hands after rummaging through my bag. His shirt. I slid it over my head, as it hung down the middle of my thighs. His shirt hid the cuts and bruises covering my body from everything that's happened. Now I was climbing back into bed, wrapped up in his shirt and my blanket tucked around me.

I slid my hand to where my phone was sitting on my bedside table. My eyes adjusted to the bright screen as I began to scroll through my photos. His eyes. His dimples. His smile. His laughter. His voice. His everything. Just like the rain my tears slowly dripped down my face, I clicked the button dismissing his eyes from staring at me.

I couldn't handle knowing the person I love didn't want to be with me anymore. He didn't love me anymore. I wrapped my arms around my knees, but my chest hurt from crying so much. Looking out the window as another flash flew across the sky. Bouncing off the walls in my room, lighting it just for a few seconds.

Anticipation engrossed me, as I waited for the thunder to follow but the silence was heavier than the rain. The chase was over. The weather reflected what was right in front of me. He's gone. My eyes felt heavy from crying and I was fighting to keep them open. He took my heart with him, and before I knew it my eyes accepted defeat and I fell into a deep sleep.

The airport hallways echoed with the sound of suitcases rolling against the hard floors. I has been sitting by the gate for almost an hour waiting for the boarding to begin.

Flight 2176 to London-Heathrow is now boarding.

I got up from my chair, grabbing my phone charger and stuffing it into my backpack. I slid the bag over my shoulder and proceeded over to the line forming. The sky was a dark violet blue seeing as it was 4 in the morning.

"Next."

The woman at the gate said, you could tell she couldn't wait to go home. I showed her my ticket and passport, having them ready. I never wanted to be that person who held up the line.

"You're all set,"she replied leaning over to sip her coffee before helping the next person.

"Thank you, I said , making my way through the gate and onto the airplane. I made my way to my seat, thankfully I was next to the window. I knew the flight from New York to London was about 7 hours. I slide my backpack onto the floor in front of me after putting my passport away. I arrived in New York a little over a week ago.

No vacancy the record label I would be working for had arranged my travel from Portland, OR.  I started working for the company a year ago, and they offered me a better position  in London. This was a new opportunity to further myself in the music scene.

I fell in love with music at a young age, being at live shows, the feeling of being in a room full of people who are singing along to lyrics that have shaped you. The artistry that each performer has, the adrenaline after an amazing show. I lived for it.
