Kushol's POV~

I was getting ready because we had a flight to Chittagong. I looked out my window to check whether the boy was there, but I didn't see anyone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~4 HOURS LATER~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My parents and I arrived at my Nanu's (maternal grandmother's) home in Chittagong before heading to the hospital to meet my Nanu, Dilu. My Nanu was in the intensive care unit. My mother hugged her and asked, "Amma (Mother), are you feeling better now?"
There was a nurse there. " She cannot speak at this time. But she's feeling better," the nurse added.
My Nanu's nose and mouth were covered with an oxygen mask. Surprisingly, she removed it and said, "Who said I can't speak? I'm feeling a lot better now." In relief, my mother exhaled and chuckled softly.
" Lily, I'm fine Ma(affectionately calling Lily her mother) but where's the doctor? I want to go home. Looking at these sick people around me is making me sick!"
"Amma (Mother), you are sick, you just had a heart attack!" exclaims Lily.
The doctor entered the ICU room and was having a conversation with my mother quietly.
"You must be her daughter," asked the doctor. " I am, indeed. "How is she doing now?" my mom asked.
-" She's doing quite well. We might move her to a cabin room tomorrow and..."
-" No, shift me there today!" —Nanu interrupted the doctor.
I laughed accidentally.
- "Amma!" (Mother!) My mom to Nanu.
-' Actually, she looks just fine. Let's simply move her once I run a few tests."
My mother and I stayed with my Nanu till she was transferred to a cabin room. My mother and I were sitting on a sofa. My nanu was laying on the bed.
- "Are you all right, Maa?" I asked.
-" I am fine Baba (affectionately calling his son)."
-" Maa, you have to take some rest and you haven't eaten anything."
-'' Yeah I know I am waiting for your fathe... I mean for Noman.''
-" Where is he anyway?" I asked
Suddenly, Noman enters the cabin room and gives Salam to my Nanu. "Lily, I have to return to Dhaka," he told my mom. I just spoke with my employer on the phone."
When my mom heard that she stood up from the sofa and asked, "What?"
I got up from my seat as well. "Yes, honey, I need to travel to Dhaka," he responds. It's an emergency!" My mother then said to him, "Oh! Okay."
- "Are you sure you'll be fine?" My stepfather inquires.
-" Sure! Amma's (mother's) health is improving. I'm going to be alright."
My stepfather then headed to the airport. We later went to my Nanu's house. Nitu, my Khalamoni (maternal aunt), spent the night with my Nanu. Roton, my Choto Mama (youngest maternal uncle), lives with my Nanu. Anyway, we ate dinner and then went straight to bed. My mother and I shared a bed. And the moment I laid down, I fell asleep.
It was three o'clock. I woke up unexpectedly. But my mom wasn't there with me on the bed. So I went to check the restroom to see if she was there, but she wasn't. Then I went to the balcony, and there she was, leaning against the balcony railing. She noticed me standing at the door.
"Did I just wake you up?"
- "No, but what are you doing here?"
-" I wasn't sleepy. So I came here."
I moved up to her and leaned against the railing as well. She was gazing up at the star-studded sky. We didn't speak for a few minutes. I broke the silence by asking,
"Why did Baba leave us?"
She stared at me, then aside, but she didn't say anything, so I didn't ask her again. After a few moments, a tear streamed down her cheek. I couldn't take my eyes off her.
"You were diagnosed with Down Syndrome while I was pregnant with you. After that, your father left me, arguing that he did not want a baby with no function."
She paused for a few moments before saying,
" We got to know that the diagnosis was a false-positive after your birth. After hearing about it, your father visited me. He wanted to have a fresh start."
"So, why didn't you?" I asked, my eyes welling up with tears and my heart melting with regret.
"Because you are the most beautiful thing that could ever happen to me, Kushol. I couldn't let him back into our lives and destroy everything again."
She began crying all of a sudden.
I grabbed her and hugged her. She hugged me tightly. And that was the first time I hugged my mother since my stepfather entered our lives. I was feeling bad since I didn't support my mother's marriage to my stepfather. I mean, she has gone through a lot, after all.
For a while, we were hugging each other. After a moment, she dried her eyes and murmured, "Let's go to bed. We have to get up early in the morning to see your Nanu."
We left the balcony, and I shut the balcony door. I looked at my phone and saw that it was 3:36 a.m. We both laid down, and I rolled into my blanket. We were facing one other in opposing ways. My mom starts saying,
" Hey, let's take your Nanu with us to Dhaka. What do you think? "
-" Yeah Maa, why not?..let's take her."
I had been thinking about something for a few minutes. I'd been meaning to tell my Mom this for a long time.
- "Maa, I've been meaning to tell you something." She remained silent. So I asked her once again, "Maa?" When I turned back, she was already asleep.
Then I rolled over onto my side and closed my eyes till I fell asleep.
