The dead world was a nice place.
It was a never ending valley, grass so green that the queen's eyes looked dark compared to it, flowers of every kind, the night sky full of shining stars.
Souls flew around, light as feathers, there were billions.
A few meters ahead there was an enormous chasm. Inside of it, on floating tiny isles, there were millions of houses, the human eye couldn't see the end of the village.
《Let me take you to your new house, my dear.》said Azrael.
Nesta was in shock, the beauty of that place was overwhelming.
She flew behind the angel, til they reached a floating house.
It was no fancy castle, it was the girl's dream house.
A small cottage with a red roof and vases of flowers outside.
《It's so lovely!》She exclaimed, hugging Azrael: 《Thank you!》
He froze for a second but then he pat her head, smiling: 《No need to thank me. You have lived a beautiful life, you deserve a beautiful place to exist in peace for eternity.》
She smiled at him and opened the little wooden door.
The living room was large and bright, in front of the red couch there was a table with tiny decorated cups and a teapot on it.
She laid down and covered her face with her hands, squirming of joy.
《Thank you》She looked at Azrael with a beautiful smile on her face: 《May I know your name, angel?》
《Azrael.》He smiled back
《Would you like so tea, Azrael?》She asked, hinting at the cups.
He looked at her with surprise, he was still very young and had started carrying souls only a few days ago, but no one had asked him to stay yet.
《Of course!》He sat down next to her.
The tea was really good, it was hot and tasted like mint.
《Ohh I love this one!》Nesta raised her cup: 《Mint tea is my favorite!》
Azrael smiled, they had one thing in common.
They sat silent for a while, drinking their tea and looking around.
To the angel, there was no need to talk. He could sense her warmth and happiness and it was wrapping his whole body.
Nesta look more like an angel than him.
She had green kind eyes, long red hair, skin soft as cotton.
No wonder she was considered the most beautiful girl in the entire reign.
《What will happen to Selmor?》She asked out of the blue.
Azrael closed his eyes, as expected, he saw nothing.
Angels could see the future, but not him. He had tried his whole life without succeeding.
《I wish I could answer...》
She looked down, tears forming in her eyes.
《I had to marry the prince of Levaerun. He would have helped me fight the war, it was the only chance to win.》She didn't sound like the girl Azrael saw dying just a few minutes ago, she sounded fragile: 《Now his empire will fight against mine. And so will the Count's army. Selmor will be destroyed just because I was so stupid to believe a letter!》She laid down her back on the couch.
《What did the letter say?》Azrael asked.
《The Count said he surrendered. He wrote in the letter that, if I came to visit him and offered him the Crown of amethyst he wouldn't have started the battle. Of course, it was a trick. He sent his servants to kill me.》she explained.
The Crown of amethyst was known as the most precious treasure of Selmor, it had been property of the royal family for a hundred years.
《I'm sorry.》The angel didn't know what to say, her eyes were so sad he felt sad too. Empathy. Hades had taught him about it, it was a human thing.
《I wish I could go back. A queen shouldn't abandon her people just because she's dead.》Tears started falling down the queen's eyes, drawing lines on her chubby cheeks.
Azrael moved closer to her and placed a pale hand on her shoulder.
《I have to go.》He said, standing up.
《Okay, thank you for your company.》Nesta hugged him: 《Will I see you later?》
《Of course, anytime.》
Azrael flew out the door, he didn't bother to say hi to the souls that crowded the sky.
He needed to talk to Hades.
The God's castle was visible from every angle of the land, a giant obsidian palace decorated with bones and skulls.
It fit well, somehow, in the happy bright valley, it looked just in the right place.
Azrael knocked on the big door but received no answer.
He stepped in.
His long black gown touched the ground and his skin looked even paler compared to the dark walls.
Soon he arrived in the hall.
On a throne of silver, the God of Death, was playing with a small rag doll, braiding her blonde wool hair.
《Hey Azrael!!》he screamed when he saw the boy walking towards him
《Hello, Hades.》The angel bowed.
《Come on, no need to bow to me now!》 He stood up and pat the boy's head with kindness: 《You're a death angel! I'm so proud of my little boy!》
Azrael blushed and straightened up.
《I heard queen Nesta II died. Did you bring her here?》the man asked.
《Yes.》 Azrael couldn't hold back a smile: 《She was really nice to me.》
《Awesome!》Hades exclaimed: 《Does she like my reign? Haha I believe it's prettier than hers.》
《She loves it.》Azrael hesitated: 《But she needs help.》
《Help? What kind of help can a dead person need?》
《A queen won't abandon her people just because she's dead.》He said, repeating Nesta's words.
《I like her spirit, but I can't do anything about it. I'm afraid she needs to let go of the mortal world.》Hades sat down on his throne.
