The very next day, Hina was sent to the secluded place Jin mentioned. Itsuki traveled to the address the older one gave to him and searched for the midwife who will help him to solve his problem. He went alone as his cousin still had some tasks to finish. He knocked on the wooden door and he waited for almost an hour before someone could even open it for him. His eyes widened when he saw a woman in early twenties wearing blood stained clothes. He searched for wounds on her body but he found none.
"That's not my blood. I have a patient and she just gave birth. What do you need?" She asked and he looked around inside the small wooden cabin to see if she really had a patient. She raised a brow and closed the door behind her.
"I would like to ask if you can help me with my problem." He finally said and she crossed her arms while waiting for him to tell the whole problem. He looked around again and whispered to her what it was.
"Ah, I thought it was something else. Come in. My patient had a baby boy." She casually said as she opened the door for him. He felt weird since it seemed like it was normal for her that someone like him is looking for a newborn child to be bought.
She lifted the small opening on the floor and they went down. Two women were inside the underground basement but one of them was already dead. She died due to blood loss after giving birth. They didn't have any physicians around, so they could do nothing about it. The newborn baby was sleeping peacefully beside his deceased mother while the other woman was cleaning the blood with a damp towel and a basin full of water. She carried the newborn baby and carefully transferred him in his arms.
"You're lucky. You can buy the baby without asking for a reservation. The mother didn't have any family as recipients, so the money you will give as payment will be used for her burial." The woman said and he stared at the newborn child's face. He could tell that his real father is no ordinary man.
"How much?" He asked and she took a small notebook from the small table at the side and wrote down everything he needed to pay. With the paper she is using for the receipts, it means she can afford expensive things. Only wealthy people like him can buy those because the country just started to produce papers.
"Here. It includes the clean clothes that the baby will wear when you leave. I will also give you his basic needs but it seems like you can afford it. Nevertheless, I will give it to you so you have an idea about taking care of a child." She said after handing the receipt to him. He looked at it and didn't expect that it was that expensive.
She took the child from him and cleaned him before wearing clean yet tiny clothes on him. He watched do everything until she explained to him what were the items he would use to take care of the little one. He gave two bags of gold coins to her and then, he received the newborn child and the items. He fixed his hat made from bamboo straws to hide his face. He just rented a carriage to travel in order to hide everything from those who knew him.
During the trip, the newborn baby who is now his son suddenly cried. The woman earlier told him that the milk inside the small bottle will just only last for a few hours because it was breastmilk, so he quickly took it and tried to feed his son with it. He made sure that he would not get drowned from it or else, the milk would go through his nose. He felt relieved when he finished the milk and started smiling at him.
"So, this is the feeling of having a child." He whispered while smiling softly at his son. He caressed his cheeks gently with his finger and the little one squealed while staring at him. Perhaps, his son thought that he was his real father.
They arrived back in no time to the Fujiwara Household. He explained to his father that the child has his blood but the mother died because of blood loss. He didn't really want to lie about it but he had no choice or else, his father would force him to marry someone else. He also told him that the burial of the mother has been handled already. His father carried the little one in his arms and he was thankful that he somehow looked like him.
"I hope you're not forgetting what I wanted, Father." He brought that up and his father gave him a serious look. They all knew that he would not take his words back, so he just nodded. He bowed his head while trying to suppress his smile.
He let his parents spend some time with his son, so when his cousin arrived from Kyushu, they went to visit the two brothers in Shinmachi. Shohei has been helping his parents in handling their family business which was related to foreign trade. His sisters arrived to meet their nephew and this made him feel a little empty. They were so happy that he already gave them the heir that they wanted. When he thought that the newborn baby he would adopt might fill up his empty heart with love, he was wrong.
A smile formed on his lips at the sight of Hokuto when they arrived there. Hokuto greeted him with a smile and found out that he was wearing the gold necklace he gave him. He borrowed him from Kazuma for a while and they shared a passionate kiss in an empty room. He missed him even though he didn't see him for only a few days. He wrapped his arms around his upper body and pulled him closer to deepen the kiss. They just broke the kiss when one of the female courtesans was looking for Hokuto.
"Itsuki-dono is here to stay for a night?" Hokuto asked and he nodded. Hsi heart started to pound loudly, feeling his face heating up while staring deep in his eyes. He could tell that Itsuki was longing for him. He placed another kiss on his lips before going to the other room to help the other courtesans on cleaning it.
While the Fujiwara-Urakawa cousins are waiting for the night to come, a figure has arrived in Shinmachi. Everyone stopped from doing the chores when they saw who it was. Ayumi bowed her head at the new guest and he smiled innocently. Kazuma turned to look at the young lad as he was also curious about him. Jin walked in and he was surprised that it was one of the youngest shoguns the Emperor appointed recently.
"Welcome to Shinmachi, Makoto-dono." Jin smiled at the younger one and all the courtesans around them bowed their heads. It was Makoto's first time to go to a brothel but he knew what the kinds of people were in there.
