"Y/n, welcome home!" my mother wraps me in a hug as soon as I enter our huge house. My father smiles at me from behind before disappearing back into his study. "And Draco!" my mother greets my best friend as he hugs her back loosely and awkwardly.

"Here —" my mother hands Draco a letter, "From your parents."

Five years ago, when Draco and I first started attending Hogwarts, Draco's parents left him here with my parents, so for the past five years we've been living together — not in the same room, of course. I blush slightly at the thought and Draco looks at me in concern as he opens the letter.

Curtsying slightly, the behaviour accepted in my house, I take leave of my parents — my father not in sight — as both of us make our way up to our respective rooms. After refreshing, I knock on the door of Draco's room and open it slightly as he pushes it closed almost immediately, "Fuck — I forgot to lock the door — I'm changing Y/n, I'll be at your room as soon as I'm done."

"Okay," I say, walking away, replaying the incident in my head as I see it in slow motion — wait, was that- was that pale blur of skin Draco? I brush the thought away, as much as I want to zoom into it.

Minutes later, Draco is at my door, barging in without knocking. "So," he makes himself comfortable on my bed, "The letter said a lot which you probably don't know about yet. So apparently, there's this annual ball thingy for New Years and guess what?"

"We're allowed to attend?" I deduce from his excited tone.

"Yes! This is literally my first New Year's Ball!" he sounds so excited that I can't help but coo at him, while wondering why the hell I wasn't half as excited. Oh, right, because I would have to wear an itchy as fuck, persnickety dress for this while Draco could relax in a mighty comfortable looking tux. That's why.

"You aren't excited?" Draco looked confused.

"For the ball, yes; for the outfit, no," I reply, a small frown resting on my lips.

"Whose outfit?" Draco asks, raising an eyebrow as his silver eyes quickly swipe my body. "I feel pretty ... elated, to say the truth," he winks at me.

I keep the smile off my lips and the blush off my cheeks as we continue to talk more about it.
