Ch.2 The Other Alpha

I looked towards Genir who winced at the growl as it frightened her, but it was only for a moment as she put on her brave face again and followed me like nothing happened.

It was clear that the new wolf had sensed our presence and that his growls were now ones of warning to stay away from him.

I frowned as I slowed my pace. " Is he an Alpha? " I asked Genir in a low growl. She nodded and now it made sense as to why she'd gotten frightened.

An alpha's growl was meant to send shivers down an opponent's spine.

Having never encountered another alpha before, I had no idea how they smelt or how their growls impacted me.

But I remembered what Daen had told me when we first met, that an alpha is on par with another alpha no matter what, so I just had to let my instincts take over and do their thing.

Two years ago when I had first met Daen, their Alpha had just passed away and I accidentally trespassed into their territory.

And in a turn of events after quite a bit of chaos, I became their Alpha and had found purpose in life again.

A massive growl shook the ground near us, but this time it was lesser in intensity. It sounded more pained.

Just as we crossed the next covering of trees, we were met with the most beautiful blue eyes I'd ever seen.

His eyes flickered in pain but immediately on seeing us he bared his fangs as he growled at us from the bottom of his throat.

I immediately growled back as Genir howled to let the rest of the pack know that we had found him.

Baring his teeth at us, he threatened to not go down without a fight. I was hoping to resolve this with no violence but seeing that he was a threat to Genir and the rest of the pack if left alone like this, I let the Alpha inside me take over completely.

I walked up to him, growling and threatening him with every step.

Staying glued to his position he growled back becoming more aggressive and restless and I knew why.

He was an alpha. An Alpha never bowed down to another Alpha. They'd rather die with their pride intact than cower in front of another one, especially if you led a pack.

I stopped growling for a second and took in his state. He was heavily injured and his legs looked like they would give away at any moment.

The pain that he was trying to mask was evident in his eyes.

I hesitated for a moment and it proved fatal as he lunged at me and clawed my arm before I could dodge him.

And even before I could react, Daen and Pedro had appeared from behind me and growled at the wolf as they protectively surrounded me.

In a second the entire search team was here. With six wolves covering his exits and growling at him, his fatigue finally gave in and he collapsed.

Pedro and his pupil, Carnel closed in and kept an eye on the wolf that was now lying on the ground and taking jagged breaths.

Daen and Genir along with Daen's brother, Reynar approached me with worried eyes.

" You alright, Alpha? " Daen asked me as she looked at the claw marks on my arm as the wound bled. " I'm fine. Don't worry. " I said as I walked up to the new wolf.

" What do we do with him, Alpha? " Pedro asked me. After a moment of thought, I said, " Let's take him back to our house. "

" But Ninya... " Daen said, troubled with my decision. " We have no other option. We can't leave him here to die. That's not how we would ever leave another one of our own. Alpha or not, he is still a wolf. " I said firmly.

" We'll let him heal and meanwhile figure out what did that to him. It bothers me that he ended up like that in our woods. " I said with a frown as I looked at the deep gashes on him, that were bleeding profusely.

" But he attacked you, Ninya Alpha! For that itself he deserves to die. What's to say he won't attack again? " Rayner said with a deep growl as he looked at my wound again.

" We'll keep a close eye on him. The first sign of him being a threat and we'll deal with him accordingly. " I said as I looked at him shivering in the cold.

Daen nodded, her sight never leaving the other alpha as she asked, " How are we going to take him back? "

" I'll shift. " I said and went behind one of the trees and shifted.

I shivered as the cold wind grazed my bare skin. Quickly I untied my shifting cloaks that were tied to my calves and dressed myself. These cloaks were the same colour as my fur and so blended in smoothly when I was a wolf.

Immediately I walked up to the wounded beast and took a deep breath as I buried my arms under him.

With a huff, I lifted him up. Thank my abnormal alpha strength I thought, as I realised how huge he actually was. He was nearly a humans height in length.

The moon shone even brighter now and all of a sudden the way back home was a lot more visible. And I wondered if this was some sort of sign.

The rest of the pack walked with me as we hurried back to the house. He needed treatment and that too as soon as possible. Most of the wounds looked like it was the result of a wolf on wolf fight. But without asking him I wouldn't know for sure.

His solid auburn fur felt soft against my hands as I held him close. Despite the aggression he showed, I strangely wanted him to be alright.

Maybe it was because he was a wolf and that I had always had a weakness for them or maybe it was something more, I didn't know at that time.

We finally reached the house and I laid him on the grass under the roof I had built for my pack.

I had once built a large pen as a joke and had told them that they were like sheep that I had to protect. But the one productive thing that came out of that was the current roof that I placed him under.

Questioning looks arose from Meria, Hyun and Keyu when they saw me walking up to them with a wounded male alpha in my arms.

Finally, as I placed him down I looked around and noticed the tension that was in the air. The pack was on edge as they felt troubled with the situation.

" Ninya. That Alpha... He smells different... He smells like you. " Daen said as she whispered the last part.
