Synopsis

Something ancient and powerful lurks beneath the surface of an idyllic and much-loved holiday island off the southern coast of Australia. A supernatural force to be reckoned with.

The second in this series of four novellas, Shattered Granite, sees yet another strange death on the island.

When Chris O'Sullivan is called to investigate an incident at an old abandoned building, Rogranite Lodge, he quickly realises that another supernatural event has occurred.

With help of his doctor friend Leandra Stubbs, they work to uncover the truth of what has happened. As they do so, they meet an elderly woman who is much more than she first seems. The oddly named Dianella Furloghty becomes a vital link in their search. And they learn that what first seems incredibly evil and destructive may indeed be a victim of something larger itself.

                                                                                     CHAPTER 1

'Shut up Paul,' hissed Eddie, digging his mate in the ribs with his elbow. 'You don't have to advertise to the world that we're here!'

Paul, who'd been slurring the words to an old 1980s pop song at the top of his voice, chucked his empty beer bottle into some bushes beside his van and belched.

'There's nobody around to hear me, dickhead,' he replied. 'A guy in the pub told me this old joint's got a rep. A real bad rep that's supposed to be true. Ghosts and booger men, and all that. But he said it's worth a look cos it's got a helluva good view of the bridge back to the mainland, and it's a great place to smash up a bit if we feel like letting off some steam.'

'The scary stuff's probably all bullshit to try to keep people out,' snorted Eddie. 'Lets take a look around, anyway.'

'Yeah, and afterwards we can go across the bridge and get more beer and some pizza,' agreed Paul, before belching again. 'Beer always makes me hungry.'
