The base is filled with the happy murmurings of the Pirate brotherhood and their families. The large group that showed up this year brings a smile to my face. It gives the feeling of family that the Pirates strive for. The place for the misfits that dad wants to provide. Regardless of gender, race, or sexuality, we can all come here and be a family, and you can see it in the smiles of the people in this room. It makes not going to Freecaster to see Grandma and Uncle Colt almost worthwhile. That and knowing I'm going to see them in just a few weeks for Christmas also helps.
"What's up, little baby niece?" Miles taunts as he comes up next to me in the food line, drawing my attention back to the task at hand.
I shake my head as I help refill the warming tray with more mashed potatoes. "Not much, other than trying to keep up the foodline for piggies like you." I give him a playful smile showing I don't mean it. Miles is a very fit guy who is constantly working on his physique. "How's it going?"
"Eh," he shrugs, "can't complain. Three Thanksgiving meals in one day? Hell yeah." His smile widens as he scoops up a hefty helping with stuffing.
My eyes widen in shock. "Three?!" I can't even imagine. Just doing the one here at the base makes me want to pop every year. We usually do it early so that Dad, Big Daddy P, Zane, and I can get back to their house for football.
Anyone else is happily invited as long as they bring their own beer. I thought this year had the same plans. Dad didn't say anything about going to any of Tamarah and Miles' family functions.
