~~~~~~~~~~CAROLINE~~~~~~~~
I stared at the clock waiting for the bell to ring so I can be one hour closer to when I can finally retreat to my books. Mrs. Dill is droneing on about Zeus and his mighty bolt, at least that's what I've picked up on. Only 20 minutes left to go before I'm home free. I sit at the back of the class near the window for two reasons:
1) Ideal for naps
2) The window is perfect for scouting the grounds since the school is on the second story.
I hear the door open but I'm to busy watching two squirrels chase eachother. "Ah welcome Mr. Aines. Would you like to tell the class a little bit about yourself?"
"My name is Cole and I'm from Canada. I moved here for a job. "
I look up because the voice that I hear seems to draw my attention. I find myself looking at a boy about my age with black hair to his shoulders and pale skin; but what captured my attention was his crisp blue eyes, the eyes that were staring directly into mine. I felt my face flame and quickly looked away. I'd been caught staring.
"Thank you, you may have a seat back next to Ms. Bridge." I inhaled sharply as he made his way toward me, his eyes never leaving mine. I couldn't quite tell what I saw in them. Anger? Curiosity? Determination? He took a seat in the chair next to me but kept his eyes forward, I must have been imagining the little staring contest. I scanned the room and it seems he is already popular with the ladies. They were turned slightly toward him and would occasionally peek at him and blush. This is going to be interesting. Giggling to myself I imagined him requesting something and all the girls would throw themselves at him trying to fulfill he request. Let the show begin.
~~~~~~~~~~~COLE~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sit casually but am paying full attention to her, Caroline. She is my mission. She is going to die. I watch her in the corner of my eye, observing her every move, breath, and ...giggle? Is she giggling? What could she possibly find funny about Zues's lighting bolt? She isn't ugly but not exactly beautiful. She was normal, but something was different about her. What was it? I didn't realize I had fully turned toward her until she was snapping her fingers in my face.
"Hello? Anybody home? " she whispered. "Do I have something on my face or something? "
Thats when I saw it, her eyes. One was a golden brown and the other a cool blue. I found myself lost I'm the gentleness of the brown and the sharpness of the blue but quickly regained my composure. I sat up and turned to the front. That was wierd, I've never seen such eyes. The photo I saw of her didn't do justice to the real thing. I had studied her file over and over again.

~~~~~~~~~CAROLINE ~~~~~~~~~
The bell rang and as usual I was the first to rush to the door.
"Caroline! " So close.
"Yes Mrs. Dill? "
"Since we all know you're not going to do anything productive, like that essay that was due last week. " she raised her eyebrows expecting an excuse. Not getting one she continued, "Why don't you show Cole around to his classes."
Of all people..., "But..."
"Maybe I'll give you some extra credit for your kindness. Every little bit counts at this point." There was no point in arguing with her. One thing about Mrs. Dill is that once she has her mind set on something there is no use in arguing.
"Yes, ma'am."
"Good, have fun. " Yea right. I just nodded and gestured for him to follow me. In the hall way I turned to him, "Can I see your schedule?" Was that a hint of a smile I just saw? He reached into his front pocket and pulled out a neatly folded paper and handed it to me. Our hands brushed during the exchange, my breath caught and I saw him stiffin. I felt his eyes on my face as I stared in disbelief. "No flipping way! " every one of his classes were the same classes as mine. There is no possible way that could have been a coincidence. I looked at him searching for something, anything that may suggest that this was a joke.
"Is something wrong?" He looked like he was enjoying this.
"Oh nothing at all" I said, keeping it cool, I acted as if nothing had bothered me. "It's just neat that we share every class. " His face suggests that he wasn't fooled by my act.
"Isn't that wierd? " he said but I definitely saw a smile before he turned away. He started down the hall way. I chased after him. "You're going the wrong way! " He still didn't stop. "Hey! Class is that way. " I say while pointing in the opposite direction. He still didn't stop so I walked beside him and studied his face. He was pretty cute and tall, I can see what the girls see in him. He would make a great couple with Blair. Blair was the vision of perfection at our school. She had emerald green eyes and long black hair which was always done perfectly. She was tall and skinny and you won't find a single pore on her face. Not to mention, she's rich. Everyone adores her except me. We used to be friends until she became popular in sixth grade. She began changing and would tease me all the time. I hate her and she hates me.
Speaking of the devil here she comes. Her hair was of course perfect and her clothes were obviously new. She had her green eyes locked on to Cole, here we go. She stopped right in front of him and flipped her hair over her shoulder. Oh dear, she likes him. That was always her way of flirting.
"Hello, I haven't seen you around before. " Cole just looked at her.
"I just transferred." He said, he looked so uninterested. Good job dude!
"Well in that case, I could show you around. " She batted her eyelashes and twirled a lock of hair around her finger.
"Caroline is already doing that, thank you. " He seemed unfazed by her moves. I was surprised he even remembered I was there. She obviously didn't notice me, she looked down at me and quickly scanned my outfit. She made a face of disgust, apparently my sweater and leggings with converse weren't to her liking. Good.
"Oh, she can hardly tell left from right. I think I can be of more help than that slob. "
That was my cue to leave. "It's fine Cole, she's right. Have fun. " I took a step back and went to leave but I didn't get far before I was picked up and slung over Coles shoulder. "Hey! What...?"
"Thanks for the offer... what was your name? "
"Blair. "
"Blair. But I think Caroline will do just fine. Goodbye. " He turned around and I was able to see Blair's face and she was not happy. She stuck her nose in the air and marched off in the opposite direction.
"What did you do that for? She was totally flirting." I remembered that I was still on his shoulder and people were giving us quizzical looks. "And please put me down. " He stopped and put me down and started walking again.
"We share classes anyway so it's easier this way. " he said matter-of-factly. Oh, of course. Wait why am I disappointed? Wierd. At least he is heading in the right direction now. This is going to be a long day.
