When the next day came, Will asked Hannibal about a name, to which Hannibal proclaimed that he would bow to Will's expertise in the matter and leave it up to him. Will smiled at that, and when Hannibal saw the mischief in his eyes, he almost took it back.
Will didn't give the puppy a name right away, waving off Hannibal's repeated questioning. And so, Hannibal took to calling him Mažasis, or Little One. On the fifth day after bringing home the pup, Will got a package in the post. Hannibal watched him open it in the living room with interest, the plain packaging ripped open to reveal a sturdy dog collar. Hanging from it was a little pendant shaped like a heart. Hannibal held out his hand, "Let me see." Will passed over the collar, barely containing a smile as Hannibal pulled on his reading glasses to look at the engraving on the pendant. He paused for a moment, and then looked up at Will, feigning exasperation. Will finally laughed. "What," he asked. "Too pretentious for you?" Hannibal pursed his lips, fondness written across his face. "And yet again you prove that I can never entirely predict you." He hands Will back the collar, letting him snap it into place around the puppies neck. Achilles is engraved on the front of it, first in English letters, and then underneath it in smaller, Greek ones, followed by their address and alias's contact information.
And so, their family grew from two to three. It always makes Will smile just how damn devoted to that dog Hannibal is. Seeing his tall, strong, sophisticated, pretentious man, kneel on the kitchen floor in his 3 piece suit to make sure their little chihuahua can take the homemade treats out his hands without dropping them, never fails to make Will's heart melt. Hannibal becomes the dog parent that buys them sweaters, makes them homemade treats, let's them sleep in the bed, and treats them like a baby.
"You're lucky I've been here to teach him not to bark and walk on a leash, if it were all up to you he'd never learn anything but what the word 'treat' means." Wil teases him. "I'm not that bad." Hannibal argues, not looking sorry at all. Will kisses after that.
Will thought he was hallucinating again the first time he saw Hannibal let Achilles lick his cheek. "Sometimes I think you love that dog more than me," he jokingly complains one day. If Hannibal were the type of person to roll his eyes, he would've. "Mylimasis, you do say the most outlandish things sometimes." But he practically drags the other man into the bedroom, neither emerging until the sun starts going down.
Hannibal loves Will, and he might just love the dog too.
