Chapter Four

Everything

Time passed by so fast that it felt like a blink of an eye. Today, April 26, 1320, is the day when I will go to this new place called Maharlika (Philippines to kunwari before Spanish Era). It's another group of islands and since its so far from Las Islas de Illumina, it would be better to terrorize.

As soon as the sun hid its rays, I boarded the ship that will take me there and set sailed. The journey was long. We spent months in the middle of the ocean. We lived with just fresh fish until one day, October 29, 1320, our ship hit dry land.

It was such a foreign place. People wore long skirt with designs and their men had tattoos. Many carried weapons, many also carried big jars.

We ain't here to admire them though. We just needed to blend in.

"These people are fashionable..." Wraya after trying on one of the woman's clothes, trying on some bracelets next.

"I like Europe better though." Az said back after grabbing himself a headpiece.

It's not bad. Now, we look like them. Then, we need to learn their language. I mean how else would we communicate right?

We spent time to learn everything we needed to blend in. we learned their language, we worked, we communicated, and many more.

And remember how humans back in Europe are stupid. I tell you; humans here are way worse. They just believed that we were sibling from another province. They were so kind to us. They offered shelter, food, friendship... they basically accepted us in their community as we are with no further questions.

Another thing is that... THEY. DON'T. KNOW. GOD. JESUS. HEAVEN...

That is why, on February 18, 1321, we succeeded with our initial motive. We destroyed the dream of God.

My eyes reflected the orange fire in front of me. It was massive. It covered the entire village including the rajah's home. People are running around, and chaos was everywhere. They were screaming and all, but one significant thing caught my attention, their babaylans.

They were women of the village who are said to have power... like foresight and all. And now, they are performing a ritual. And I proved something, once again.

Humans really are stupid. These here, created their own god. Humans will never change in that aspect. They always make their own gods. Either its gold or an animal, its still not a god.

After that one grave night, me and the other two went on and traveled across the entire island causing trouble everywhere we went, leaving everything in a very difficult state. And again, one day, May 5th, we settled.

As usual, we had to get acquainted with the place. Five days later, May 10th, I was just wondering around the forest one afternoon, thinking about how to torment this place when suddenly, a flying arrow went my way!

Then someone shouted, "ILAG!!!!!"

I was right on time to catch it before it even reached me. I looked at my right and saw a man in warrior clothing, running fast towards me. Before I could react, he was already in front of me then grabbed my arm!

"Binibini, ayos ka lang ba...?" I was so stunned that my brain can't order my body to move! "Paumanhin at ako ay nag-eensayo lamang. Humihingi ako ng tawad at nailagay ko pa ang iyong buhay sa kapahamakan." The guy said while looking at me with those careful, guilty eyes.

Time froze and my heart leaped, but suddenly sunk.

It took me a little while to answer. "Huwag kang mag-alala, ginoo. Sapagkat ako ay hindi natamaan." I said then smiled at him with all my charm power. Dang it!

As I tried to regain my posture, I noticed how he was still holding may hand. He must have been looking at me so when I looked down, he also did. He then immediately let go of my hand.

"Paumanhin, binibini..." he looked at me like he was asking me something, so I just said my name.

"Karmila, ginoo." I felt a weird tug in me, but I didn't mind. I looked up to the man in front of me once again and I noticed how good looking of a creature he was... From the long hair, to those perfect eyebrow. His nose was also pointed a bit, and he has these red, thin lips and sharp jaw and...

"Karmila!!"

Before I could look more, my friend's voice interrupted. I took DEEP breath... then faced my dear friend, Wraya, running towards me in lightning speed. I don't know, this feeling is so weird. I'm her friend and she's my friend too and I'm always glad when she's around but this time, I really wanna smash her for being here. At. THIS. Moment.

She must have known that cause she stopped before she was even close to me, looking so shocked. She gulped then said, "Kailangan na nating umuwi, hinahanap na tayo ni kuya." She then looked to the person beside me. Then me again. Then him. She did that many times more.

"Oo ng pala." I faced the man and politely said, "Paumanhin ginoo, at kami ay mauuna na." I even slightly bowed to him.

"Siyan ga at gumagabi na rin. Mahirap abutan ng gabi dito sa gubat, binibini." He said and smiled, pointing his hand towards the village and nodded his head.

After that, Wraya and I walked home and the entire time, I felt so light. I felt like I was just floating in air. I can feel her look at me repeatedly, but I ignored her. I'm still stuck in that time with the stranger.

As soon as we stepped in our house, Wray shut the door and screamed. "Who was that!? OH MY GOSH, why were you with him!?" she looked so alarmed for some unknown reason that it shocked me.

I looked at her innocently and said... "Why?"

She then looked at me with disbelief and said... "I saw how you looked at him! Why did you looked like one of those peasants looking at their crush?" her tone screamed curiosity, concern, and disgust.

I didn't understand. "I did nothing." And with that I continued to my room. Only to see Az on the way and he looked at me just like how Wray looked at me. I just walked pass him and went strait to my room .

What's the big deal anyways? I interacted with a human just like any other day. And oh yeah, I still got the arrow. I placed it next to my mat. So yeah, I slept. Quite in peace too.

And that was the day, we first meet. And I had no idea that he, in the next few months ... and in the coming centuries... would mean everything to me.
