Bucky had said that he didn't feel like getting a tree. Which was odd because Bucky loved getting a tree and covering it with strings of tinsel and homemade decorations. You had arranged to meet up with Bucky and Steve at the winter fair that was on. You'd seen them building a giant wheel covered in lights and insisted that you all went.

"Do you know why he doesn't want one?" You asked as you walked along the busy road with Steve.

"Doesn't want a what?" Steve asked as he glanced away from you. There was another long line outside the shop that the army had taken over as a recruitment office. It held his attention until you spoke again.

"Want a tree. He always goes so over the top with Christmas. This is the first year he doesn't want to do anything." You muttered.

"It might be his last christmas... at home." Steve added. When you didn't answer Steve linked arms with you and smiled. "But it won't be his last ever."

"You are filling me with confidence, Rogers. It's not like you two are going off to war and never coming back. I know you'll both come home." You said with confidence.

"If I can even get in. They drafted Bucky a few weeks ago, he's waiting for the letter to say when he leaves." Steve explained. You saw Bucky up the road. He waved eagerly at you, causing several people to look his way. Dropping Steve's arm you hurried up to greet him and gave him a hug.

"Where've you been Buck? We waited for an hour at the end of the street." You scolded gently.

"I went to get you these." Bucky said. He had a small parcel wrapped in brown paper and a shoelace which, when you looked down at his boot, was clearly one of his. The other object in his hand was a small tree. It was silky when you touched it.

"I saw this elderly man making them on the street and got one. I know I wasn't feeling the... season but I want you to enjoy it." Bucky said. You smiled and took the both, putting the parcel in your bag, deciding to save it for later.

"Hey, I thought you didn't want a Christmas tree." You said to Bucky as he threw an arm around you and the other around Steve.

"I didn't want to miss out on celebrating." Buck said and then excitedly pointed out some sort of tech stall up ahead. You laughed and followed him as he giddily hurried up to the crowd around the stall. You pushed your way to the front with him.
