It was a cold night in New York City. The snow was gently falling, leaving quite a chill in the air. Hari wrapped her coat around herself as tight as possible and hugged herself for more warmth.
As Hari walked through the city looking up at the bright lights she can't help but think of her home which she'd left 5 years ago to be able to be with her ex the 'love of her life'
The same ex that wanted to be a big star in New York, the same ex that abandoned her 1 year into moving here. The same ex who had left her for their co-star in a movie she'd landed. The same ex had still managed to not yet leave Hari's mind completely, much to her dismay. Seeing her on billboards across the city didn't exactly help.
Hari took her eyes off the billboards and let out a long gentle sigh as she resumed her walk to work.
She had been lucky enough to become head chef for a well-established family business. The Ryder family. They had given her every opportunity and treated her like one of their own this made work more like a family reunion.... but every night!
She'd decided to get a quick meal before a busy Friday night shift. She knew full well that the restaurant was fully booked this evening and she wouldn't get a chance to eat.
As it would happen, the city was littered with hotdog stands, very conveniently. It was one of the things the girl had grown to love about the city. The closest one was a few mere steps away from the restaurant.
"One, please," she said with a slight smile.
The man looked up. "Of course, ketchup and mustard?"
"Yes, please, and onions if you have any."
As she was British, the words sounded slightly foreign to the man. He handed the hotdog over with a warm smile.
"Have a lovely evening."
"You too," she paid, leaving a tip.
Silently, she ate sitting on a nearby bench. She looked up quickly when a girl caught her eye.
As she went to look up, she deterred herself, thinking, "Distractions are the last thing you need right now." She shook off this feeling quickly.
She just can't help herself when it comes to pretty girls. With that, she finished her dog and disposed of the napkin.
As she approached the large arched doorway of the restaurant, she noticed out of the corner of her the same very beautiful woman she'd tried to ignore previously... the woman was so beautiful that she found it hard to take her eyes off her this time. She knew it was. a bad idea to even look given her track record with women, but there was something about her.
Flowing blonde hair with the slightest hint of purple on the ends, the most gorgeous green eyes and the brightest smile she'd ever seen. She looked away slightly when she heard the women's laugh. It was music to her ears.
Hari was then stopped in her tracks .... She looked at the girl and for a brief moment, the two eyes met... For Hari, it was like the world had stopped for those few seconds. Wishing she could hold on to that moment for a little longer... This was until the beautiful mystery woman's boyfriend wrapped his arms around her.
"Well, another one bites the dust," she mutters to herself quietly before proceeding into the restaurant.
