Sam's step dad think of Sam as a burden. He wanted to marry Sam's mom thus he agreed to the conditions. Sam and his step dad tolerate each other because of her mom's happiness
Cam refuses to talk to his dad because his dad is an alcoholic and hits him. He is personal punching bag of his dad when he is high.
His mom worked in police. She qas a great cop, but was killed in a really dangerous task saving Cam. His mom's death was the reason his dad hits him.
Now Cam mostly lives at Sid's house, and only goes to his house when his dad was not home.
