She had seen the angry looks of the elders and it had given her the same, she had heard them reprimand her and tell her that she had to resume her engagement with the Nara immediately to which she refused, it was Gaara who ended the meeting saying that his sister must have had her personal reasons for doing such a thing and they weren't the ones to have an opinion, although no doubt he was also surprised especially because the decision seemed sudden when a date for the ceremony had already been chosen. Apparently her brothers thought it was an impulse and just hoped she would think things through.

She didn't talk, she told them what she had done on her trip, at least with respect to Shikamaru, and locked herself in her bedroom. Going out only to eat when her body forced her to, and every night she turned all her attention to the only thing that calmed her enough to be able to sleep, and that was to drink until she lost consciousness.

Her brothers were concerned, she had always drunk, but she had never been an alcoholic or gone to that extreme. The two of them began to spend the night in the house, trying to comfort her or at least get her to talk to them and get whatever was going through her head off her chest. Kankuro for his part didn't understand, his sister had never really seemed happy together with the lazy ninja, and even less to break down like that after ending the relationship of several years, although well, he wasn't the best one to judge that kind of bond as he had never had a couple he wanted to spend a lot of time with.

After two weeks of seeing that every night drinking was all she did, they decided to take all the beers out of the fridge, the result being that his older sister watched them angrily before going to the bedroom to get her wallet and then disappearing out the door. The puppeteer inhaled deeply before following her, he would watch her for that night and they wouldn't do that again, it was mildly preferable that she got drunk in the house where at least she wouldn't get in trouble. He had returned at dawn with the blonde in his arms because she couldn't even take two steps in a row, as soon as he left her on the bed, she clung to his chest preventing him from moving, and for the first time in his life he saw her cry herself to sleep.

After a month she wrote to the brunette, Kamaichi was still furious with her for having asked him to disable the protection jutsu of Tenten's apartment and let her in, she bribed him with everything she found in the fridge so he reluctantly agreed to take the note, and she went through the scroll waiting for a response. But nothing came and she continued to pour herself into the liquor, she hated the pitying look her brothers gave her, but she didn't care, she was tired of pretending she was strong and nothing affected her. At that moment she just wanted the woman to return to her side, or at least to accept her apology and they could talk.

By the middle of the second month her family seemed to have given up that she wasn't going to tell them anything, so they partially returned to what was their routine before that, asking her to please drink a little less, something that fell on deaf ears, and in the end they just told her they would support whatever decision she made, regardless if it was to go back to the Nara or not. She snorted in annoyance, while it hurt her to have harmed the man who did nothing to deserve to be left in the middle of that shit, it wasn't him she wanted back in her life. She waited another week and sent a new letter, getting the same response as the previous one, which was total silence.

The third month progressed with a slight glimpse of a return to normality, she went to the office and worked for a while, or tried to, as it was a way to try to silence the voice in her head that reproached her again and again that everything that was happening was exclusively her fault, it was she who had taken for granted that the brunette would be for her and that's why she never valued everything Tenten did. In the evenings she was again as lonely as before, Gaara again stayed in the office and Kankuro resumed his dates, so she kept drowning herself in alcohol. Somehow she searched at the bottom of every bottle for the calm she lacked, as well as a way out of the hole she had fallen into and a reason to keep getting up every morning.
