It was 5:30pm, I was at home doing homework, than my mother came knocking at my door.
She went, "Erwin sweetie, we'll be having guest very soon, they work for your dad and they have son whose around your age."
I rolled my eyes I said, "look I'm focused on everything, so I really don't need a friend in my life."
She sighed and said, "I'll continue making dinner."
20 mins later
I heard people greeting each other rolled my eyes.
Than, "Erwin come down sweetie!"
I hit my head on the desk.
"Erwin Smith come down!"
I yelled, "can U just leave me alone and so I can study!"
I heard footsteps coming up and I went, "oh no!"
The door opened, I heard my mother say in a firm voice. "go downstairs or I will drag you downstairs."
I got up and dragged myself instead, I heard another man jokingly say, "oh teenagers am I right? Always want to be locked up in their room."
I added in a rude manner, "yea studying, hoping to god that they have a future."
Than I saw Mike standing between what must be his parents.
He said with a smirk, "I thought I could talk to my dad like that."
His farther looked at me with daggers he said slowly, "reasonable."
Eventually, we were at the dinner table eating my mother's steak, mash potatoes and vegetables, I mean not to complain, but it's really good. but the way the mine and his parents were talking, it seemed like our parents were treating us like show ponies. telling them out greatest achievements with me non of them happened. they were saying that I can fly a small plane, that I can replicate the Mona Lisa, a can do at least 3 flips on a jetski, and all that shit it all bullshit.
Mike's parents were also saying that he can swim 104 miles on a single breath, he is a model for some magazine brand in Tokyo Japan, and he has a great sense of smell. I was sitting here wanting to tell them to shut up.
My mother said in with a Texas accent, "oh my son Erwin he has all the latest consoles."
I said in a firm and annoyed voice, "damn I didn't know you would to resort to poor shaming after treating me like a show pony..."
Than look at Mike's parents and continued, "... You were probably gonna say that Mike has 100 teslas after you treated him like a show pony. WE ARE JUST BOYS, STUDENTS WHO CAN'T EVEN ACHIEVE ANY OF THOSE UNREALISTIC GOALS, WE ARE JUST TRYING TO GET A FUTURE BUT NO, YOU SHOW US OFF LIKE WE ARE SOME KIND OF TROPHIES, NO WE ARE FUCKING NOT, WE ARE JUST STUDENTS WHO ARE STILL IN SCHOOL!"
I sighed than Mike said in his deep voice, "well I can't argue with Erwin."
Than his parents tried to tell him that I was putting ideas in his head.
Mike said in a calm demeanor, "shut up, Erwin his correct, if parading your kids isn't enough you would resort to poor shaming... Dad I thought you said this was a business dinner, but it looks like whose kid is better competition."
My mother got up and yelled, "you boys leave the table, you don't have a right to speak to us like that."
His mother agreed with my mother.
I got up out of my chair and said to Mike, "let's go and eat in my room."
Mike went, "certainly, cause I am not dealing with the bullshit coming out both of our parents' mouths."
And we eventually got to my room.
We were in my room I said to him, "make yourself at home."
He jokingly said, "than I would be in a bathtub full on mountain dew and Dorito."
I laughed at his jokes, and I said with a smile. "you can eat on my bed, I'll just be studying."
As I sat myself at my desk, and Mike sat on my bed eating he said, "I might just play couple of games on ur Nintendo Switch."
I smiled and went, "go ahead I don't care."
Eventually, I spent almost an hour studying, so I decided to take a break and watched Mike playing whatever game he was... Playing, we were talking for a while.
Than he asked, "uh, not to invade on anything, but are you the guy that Zeke cheated on with Lara?"
I nodded Mike said softly, "knew it, also you deserved better."
I agreed with him he added, "look if anyone decides to treat U like shit, I will knock them out till next year."
I looked away for a while, than looked at Mike and said softly, "look U Mike U don't have to-"
"I'm serious Erwin, you can't let people walk all over U, plus U seriously need a good person in ur life."
I yelled, "excuse m-"
Than actually decided to think what he just said, and I can't help to think maybe he is right.
Mike asked with concern, "hey U alright my man?"
My eyes widened with realisation, most of my life I never really had anyone... I just had myself till I met Zeke, I thought he was the one, but like I said earlier... He just cheated on me, so I just threw myself into books and studies.
I said quietly, "I can't help to think that it right."
Mike's eyes widened, he said in a high pitch voice, "bro all I said is that U need a good person in ur life, your parents treat U like a show pony, Zeke cheated on you and from what I heard you never really surrounded urself with genuine people... Look I'm a bit like U Erwin and I know someone that is like me when I see them. Look in the past we might've been surrounded people who didn't care about our wellbeing and shit, but we have to stick together now since we are friends"
My eyes widened... Did he just call me his friend.
