I remembered when I opened my P.O. Box and seeing a letter addressed to me and hand written. I flipped over the letter to find Dawn McGafee wrote me. Chills went down my spine. I froze in time. Even though she was in maximum secured prison, fear still crawled over my body. I read the letter
"Hello, Mrs. Roka.
I have read multiple books of yours. I know you are also a criminal investigator. Would like to meet some day before my death row trial. I would like to tell you my story. No one will listen. You're my only help. Please. I am located in Pittsburgh maximum secured prison, and my inmate number is 00678009. Thank you. Sincerely Dawn M."

If you go to the rural part of Uniontown PA, you shouldn't dare speak of Dawn McGaffe. Townies refer to that family as all "devil pawns", caseworkers describe the case as "the devil's case".  Even saying the last name McGaffe you get shooshed anywhere in the town. They believe by saying it brings bad luck, and after getting to know this case I now understand why.

You may be thinking who is Dawn McGaffe? Well, she is the local mass murderer of the town. She was such an intelligent girl, she was so beautiful, the oldest of four kids, she had so much responsibility for a sixteen-year-old some people argued that is why she snapped. It has been five years since she was sent to a women's maximum-security prison. She has been enjoying her new life there from what I have last heard.

I am a criminal investigator, and my job is to understand the minds of criminals and why do they do the things they do. Today is the day I am flying to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to visit Dawn, she personally requested to talk to me, she also knew I write books about these cases with the inmate's permission of course. Dawn wanted to get her story out there, she wants to clear her name. I guess this will be her closure, and for her son. Her son doesn't even know about her, or his family sadly from what I understand. They had this information hidden for protection issues.

As I reread this case, my nerves have been shot ever since. The whole plane ride was I was sick to my stomach, and a little scared. Dawn was a mastermind when it came to murdering, she knew every way.
